Oakland City hears OCRA grant opportunity By Grace Miller Oakland City Council, in their Oct. 13 meeting, heard from Brad Stork, with Utility Supply, who demonstrated a sealant called Avanti Sealant, which will temporarily seal the joints in the storm sewers. Mayor James Deffendall said the sealant was not a per- manent fix, but gives the city a chance to catch up on oth- er jobs before repairing the sinkholes correctly. Building Development Manager and Client Admin- istrator Jon Craig, from Mid- west Engineers, Inc., spoke on the storm sewer project in town and how to fund it. He told about grants provided by both the Office of Communi- ty and Rural A ffairs (OC- R A) and the Indiana Depart- ment of Transportation (IN- DOT) through the Communi- ty Crossing Matching Grant Program. "Our goal is to kind of mix the OCR A project and the INDOT projects together to where you could just keep chipping away at this thing," Craig said, also saying he would like to return to the next meeting with a financial consultant who could answer more questions. Oakland City fall decor in place By Grace Miller Oakland City's festive fall pumpkin decorations are go- ing up around town at, for example, the Oakland City Library and Mom's Diner, which have the customized pumpkins the city approved for city-wide use. Meanwhile, the town plans a similar snowman cutout decoration for the winter season, which are now avail- able for order.
