"Right now our motivation is to get a ring and to win sections," said Tyler Boone, 12th grade, pitcher and outfielder. Red Bluff high's varsity baseball 's glory moment was when they beat Foothill, 102, Foothill was the best in the league and so ever since then, varsity baseball has reached a new level of confidence and uses this confidence to their advantage. "Our best game was when we beat Foothill at their field, 10-2," said Chase Root, 11th grade, catcher. "We focus on winning the game to get ourselves pumped up before every game," said Egan Meagher/BLUFFER Spartan varsity pitcher Colin Igarta works to strike out a Shasta hitter in their game against the Wolves that eventually ended 14-13 victory. Root. To get pumped up before every game they all just remain calm, think positive, motivate each other, listen to music, joke around and focus on winning the game. "We joke around and listen to music to get pumped up before the games," said Boone. At their next game against Shasta High School, Red Bluff high varsity baseball plans on using good defense, hit the ball really hard, and to focus. "We plan to have good defense and to hit the ball really hard," said Boone. With Shasta being one of Red Bluff's rivals, this game will be a little extra exciting. Shasta has a league score of six wins and five losses, with an overall of fifteen wins and twelve losses. Considering Shasta's batting average of the year is 0.328 and Red Bluff with a batting average of 0.336, this is going to be a tight game. Although this is their last game and only have a league score of four wins and seven losses and an overall score of fifteen wins and thirteen losses, they still have one more game to end the season with one more win. This game determines where they will start in sections. Today, Friday May 3rd, the varsity boy's varsity will be playing on their home turf tonight at 7:00 P.M. against Shasta high school. Varsity softball plays hardball as they seek a section and a league title win Zachary Smith Staff Writer The Red Bluff High School varsity softball team is reaching for the the stars, or more likely their goals to make it to section championships as well as winning league. They have kept the season strong with a record of 25 wins and 5 losses. Some of their strategies they are introducing are to get the ball where it needs to go as quickly as possible. Also, players need to know where the ball should be going at all times. The Varsity softball team also tries to stay positive, believe in each other and practice. Practices have been going really well, "Practices are really good, we do really well which shows in the games" said Cheyanne Grannes , a junior that plays right field. However, she isn't the only one that thinks this. "We Work hard during practice, we hit like we're at bat and take grounders like we would in a game." said Bryce Etzler, a senior that usually plays pitcher. Boys tennis reaching close of season with hopes for strong end Sam Rodriquez Staff Writer Red Bluff High School's Boys Tennis team is preparing themselves for this year's league tournament which takes place at Foothill High School on May 3, 4, and 6. Devan Schoelen, sophomore, says he likes to listen to music before every match to get himself prepared. "League tournaments are when all the leagues from our area come together and compete against each other, it's more of an individual thing than a team sport," said Thunder Shaffer, junior. "During league tournaments last year I lost in the finals to our number one, then got together with him during doubles and we ended up winning sections," added Shaffer. Shaffer says he plans on "playing more consistent" and to work on getting a better forehand to do better in this year's league tournament. The team's last match was on Tuesday, April 30 against West Valley. There are no more upcoming team matches, from here on out they will only be individual matches. "Last year we went to Northstate and I beat Shasta's number one, so I'm pretty confident that we will do good in this year's league tournaments," said Shaffer. "I feel confident our upper seeds will do very well in the singles and doubles play-offs, but I am disappointed we barely missed the team play-offs," said Garrett Ward, junior. Tonight they will be playing Shasta on the Red Bluff Field. They are expecting the game Grannes. The Varsity Softball team's most recent game was April 30 We practice, " we hitwork hard during and take like we're at bat grounders like we would in a game." - Bryce Etzler against Shasta to be a tough one. "They are a good team so we have to make sure we step it up from the beginning." said at Shasta and the game was a double header. Red Bluff won both of the games. "They were a really good, and hard team to beat, but we stepped it up in the beginning and never gave up on ourselves." said Grannes after Wednesday's victories. The Varsity Softball team believe that they are a relatively well rounded team, "I think at the beginning of the season we were more defensive, but I think we've worked ourselves up to be more offensive and defensive." said Etzler Unfortunately, for this season is coming to an end and although some players have another year, for a few this is their last year. More or less they are disappointed. Even Grannes who has another year is disappointed that her high school career is coming to a close. Grannes plans o going to a college to play, even though she doesn't know which one she wants to go. Etzler already has two scholarships. One to Louisiana and another to Mcneese. Motivation for playing seems to stem from family. "Probably my Dad, I watched him when I was growing up," said Etzler.
