She was the daugh- ter of the late Cecil Clair Schrecengost and Beatrice Lottie Pritchitt Wolfcale. She was also preceded in death by a sister Tammy Schrecengost. Lauren is survived by her son Paul Walker of Rutherfordton, a daugh- ter, Shaunna Kirkoff of Mooresville, sister, Carrie Schrecengost and brothers, James Allen Schrecengost and Paul Wolfcale. Lauren also leaves behind three grandchildren and five great grandchildren. The family will have a pri- vate memorial service. SHIRLEY INEZ PHILBECK Shirley Inez Philbeck, 81, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at Hospice of Shelby. Born in Rutherford County on July 9, 1938, she was the daughter of the late John and Laura Bulter. Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, five loving sisters and seven wonderful brother-in-laws. She is survived by her husband, John W. Philbeck of Polkville; daughter, Beth Hamrick and husband, Rocky of Shelby; granddaughter, Cierra Smith, Isaac and her great granddaughter, Rachel of Shelby; sister, Fannie Hoyle of Casar; sister-in-law, Brenda Beam of Cherryville; sister-in-law, Mary Whistant of Polkville; and sister-in-law, Sybil Edwards and husband Steve of Polkville. A graveside service was held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, July 11, 2020 at Polkville United Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Lovelace and Rev. Danny McNeilly officiat- ing. ELIZABETH "BETH" PUTNAM HAMRICK Elizabeth "Beth" Putnam Hamrick, age 88, passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at Atrium Cleveland. Born in Cleveland County on April 19, 1932 she was the daughter of the late Avery Jennings and Kathryn Stone Putnam. In addition to her parents, Beth is preceded in death by a sister, Ann Avery Putnam. Beth is survived by her husband of 63 years, George Wilson Hamrick; two daughters, Liz Hamrick of Charlotte, and Kathy Ritcher and husband Gary of Harrisonburg VA; and two grandsons, Cameron Ritcher of Richmond VA and Douglas Ritcher of Harrisonburg VA. ROBERTA GILL Ms. Roberta Gill, 81, of 1630 Friendship Road Shelby, NC passed away on Thursday July 2, 2020, at Wendover Hospice House Shelby, NC. She was born in Cleveland County, NC on May 20, 1939 to the late Walter Gill and Marie Byers Gill. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Donovan Gill; brothers, Billy Gill, Aaron Harold Gill, Thurman Gill and Raymond Ted Gill and a spe- cial nephew, Deannie Gill. She leaves to cherish her memory, her daugh- ter, Vanesia Epps of the home; two grandsons, Christopher Gill and Donald Gill both of Shelby; seven great-granddaughters; one great-grandson; two special nephews whom she helped rear, Harold Gill (Carol) of Fayetteville, NC and Frankie Gill of Shelby and a host of other nieces, nephews and friends. The funeral service for Ms. Gill was private, with close friends and family. A viewing and reception of friends was held on Thursday, July 9, 2020, at Patterson Springs Baptist Church from 1:00 PM until 1:30 PM. Burial took place at church cemetery. RONNIE FAY MORROW Shelby - Ronnie Fay Morrow, age 70, passed away on Monday, June 22, 2020 at Gaston Memorial Hospital. He is preceded in death by his father, Fred Morrow and mother, Polly Morrow; three brothers, Jack, Gene and Charles Morrow; an infant sister. Ronnie leaves behind to cherish his memories his wife, Debbie Strange; chil- dren, Chasity Hickman, Misty Newton (Eric), Tristy Morrison (Timothy), Tammy Stroupe (Wayne) and David Irvin; brothers, Tommy Morrow (Lola) and Eddie Morrow (Jackie); sisters, Diane Hubbard, Trish Hardin and Ruby Maupin; six grand- sons; two granddaughters; two great-grandsons; three great-granddaughters; spe- cial friends, Peggy Vess and daughter, Peggy and Andy. A Memorial Gathering was held on Friday, June 26, 2020 from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm at the funeral home with Rev. Gary Hollifield officiating. WILLIAM "GABBY" ELLIS NEWTON, JR. SHELBY - Well-known musician and singer, William "Gabby" Ellis Newton, Jr., age 78, passed away on Friday, June 26, 2020 at Belaire Health Care Center, Gastonia, NC. He is predeceased by his parents, Ellis L. Newton, Sr. and Ellen Lovette Newton; three sisters, Lillian Mode (Bynum), Lois Street (Ben) and Barbara Annette Newton. Ellis leaves behind to cherish his memories Cathy Locke of the home; Brayden and Joshua Petty also of the home; one brother, Oakly Gene Newton (Donna) of Willow Springs, NC; two sisters, Judy Head (Bill) of Shelby NC, and Renee Smith (John) of Mooresboro NC. Services will be planned and announced at a later date. JANICE ROBERTA ROSS Janice Roberta Ross, 74, of Kings Mountain, passed away on July 08, 2020 at Atrium Main in Charlotte, NC. She was born in York County, SC, to late Robert Breakfield and Mary Lee Branham and was preceded in death by her husband of 20 years, Robert Ross. She was born January 23, 1919 in Caroleen, North Carolina to James Madison Robbins and Mary Allie Branch. John 16:13 sweetheart, Marion Leonard Lowe, who proceeded her in death in June of 2009. Reba grew up with six sis- ters and two brothers. She worked for a short time at Caroleen Mill. Later, she was the secretary at the District Attorney's Office where her supervisor was her best friend and husband, Leonard Lowe. Reba is survived by her younger sister, Frances Jolley of Chesnee, SC; daughter DiAnne Guffey of Forest City; son Stephen Lowe and wife Merry of Jonesville, NC; daughter Karen Moore and husband Butch of Forest City, NC; seven grandchildren and thir- teen great grandchildren. A private graveside ser- vice was held at Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery with Reverend Dr. Bobby Gantt and Reverend Lanny J. Funchess officiating. In lieu of flowers, con- tributions may be sent to Caroleen Baptist Church, Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, or Meals on Wheels of Rutherford County.
