He was born May 5, 1927, in Burke County to the late Eugene Coleman and the late Ruth Roper Hines. Mr. Coleman was a WWII veteran of the United States Army. He was preced- ed in death by his first wife, Zeta Whisnant Coleman; second wife, Joan Benton-Coleman; sons, Leland Coleman and Roger Coleman; and daughter, Deborah Coleman Curlee. Left to cherish his memo- ry are his daughter, Cheryl Coleman Helgestad; grand- children, Nancy Slaughter, Jennifer Sanders and hus- band Richard, Stephanie Garrett and husband Cliff, Maggie Scronce and hus- band Jake, Cody Coleman, and Jade Helgestad; six great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchil- dren. AUGUSTA JAMES "GUS" CATLIN Mr. Augusta James "Gus" Catlin, 68, passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at Lakewood Care Center in Denver, NC. SELENA ELIZABETH LEONHARDT ALEXANDER S e l e n a E l i z a b e t h Leonhardt Alexander, age 79 of Ervin Drive, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 5, 2020 at Carolina Care and Rehabilitation. She was born January 2, 1941 in Gaston County to the late Bain Clay and Aileen Sellers Leonhardt. Selena was a member of Saint John's Lutheran Church. She was formerly employed as a bookkeeper in the accounting depart- ment of Carolina Freight Carriers. She also worked for Fleetnet. Selena was an avid reader and enjoyed going to ballgames with her kids. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Lee Alexander; son, Kent Alexander; brothers, Larry Leonhardt, Harlan Clay Leonhardt. She is survived by her children, Leanne Alexander Brady and husband David of Pinehurst, and Clay Alexander of Cherryville; loving companion, Mike Randall; sister, Rita Leonhardt Larrabee; grand- children, Alexander and Anderson Brady. FRANK OSBORNE GREENE Shelby: Frank Osborne Greene, 96, went to be with his Lord, Saturday, July 4, 2020, at Hospice at Wendover. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Frank Avery and Lala Beatrice McKee Greene. Frank served in the Army, and retired from Akers Motor Lines, as a long distance truck driver. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife in 2009, Socorro "Suki" Minjarez Greene; brothers, Woody, Charles and Hubert Greene; and sister, Helen Greene SHIRLEY MAE JONES WILLIS Shirley Mae Jones Willis, age 79, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 5, 2020 at Atrium Healthcare Cleveland. Born in Cleveland County on September 25, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Paul Ernest Jones and Swanny McCalley Jones. In addition to her parents, Shirley is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, David Willis; two brothers, Wallace Jones and Gail Jones; and a sister, Agnes Jones. Shirley is survived by her three daughters, Kim Ledbetter and husband Robert Jr. of Shelby, Nancy Bumgarner and husband Odis of Shelby, and Cathy Willis of Shelby; six grand- children, Brittany Dick and husband Tommy, Elizabeth Bumgarner, Caroline Sparks and husband Daniel, Willis Ledbetter, Paige Blanton and fiance Hank Tallent, Travis Bumgardner and fiance Brandy Gosnell; seven great grandchildren; two sisters, Peggy Hicks of Fallston and Carolyn Mauney of Shelby; sister-in-law, Lib Jones of Boiling Springs and Brenda McDonald of Florida and many loving nieces and nephews. A graveside service was held at 11:00 am at Cleveland Memorial Park on Friday, July 10, 2020 with Rev. Dale Byrd and Rev. David Costner offi- ciating. A memorial service will be held at a later date. PAMELA JO CALLAHAN Pamela Jo Callahan, age 57, passed away at her home on July 6, 2020. Pam was born in Cleveland County on April 26, 1963 to the late Floyd Eugene and Mary Ann Parris Walker. Pam was a teacher for Cleveland County schools and Cherokee County schools. Pam is survived by her husband of 35 years, Robert Callahan; two sons, Jonathan Callahan and girl- friend Jillian Packard of New York and Joseph Callahan and wife Lisa of Colorado; a daughter, Hannah Callahan of Chapel Hill; a brother, Tim Walker of Fort Mill SC; two sisters, Cindy Walker of Falls Church, Virginia and Julia Hughes and hus- band Barry of Lattimore; a grandpuppy, "Baptiste", and numerous loving nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. A memorial service late Rosa M. Roberts and Preston Catlin. Augusta was a former member of Washington Baptist Church. He was a mechanic as well as a truck driver with A.V. Dedmon Trucking Company for 27 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Conroy Catlin and his sister, Mary Bostic. He leaves to cherish fond memories to his son, Travis Watkins (Tara); two broth- ers, Gary Catlin of High Point, NC and Christopher Roberts (Kathryn) of Grover, NC; three sisters, Joan Catlin of High Point, NC, Sharon Roberts of Shelby, NC and Anna Roberts of Cherryville, NC; seven grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other rela- tives and friends. A memorial service was held Monday, July 6, 2020 at S.T. Enloe Memorial Chapel at 1:00 PM. NANCY NICKELS Nancy Nickels, 94, of Kings Mountain and Charlotte passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2020, at her apartment in Sharon Towers. She was preced- ed in death by her parents, James Calvin Nickels, Jr. and Eloise Willeford Nickels, as well as her brother, Ensign James Calvin Nickels III. She was also preceded in death by her dear first cousin, Dr. Bennett Willeford. She is survived by one more cousin, Ann Anderson of Indianapolis IN. Nancy was a life time member of Kings Mountain First Presbyterian Church. She also attended Myers Park Presbyterian Church and Sharon Presbyterian Church while living in Charlotte. There was a grave- side service for Nancy on Saturday, July 11, at 11 am in the Mountain Rest Cemetery, Kings Mountain, NC. PAULETTE GRIFFIN MINTZ Paulette Griffin Mintz, age 82, of Cliffside, was ushered into heaven on the morn- ing of Monday, July 6, 2020 while being surrounded by her loving family. Paulette was born February 8, 1938 in Cherokee County, SC to the late Sam Griffin and Rosa McCraw Griffin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of forty-two years, Knox Mintz; daugh- ter, Evelyn Lee; siblings, Francis Greene, Sammie Griffin, Barney Griffin, Sam Griffin, Ernest Griffin, Rozell Gallman, Ellen Wilson, Maire Parker and Madelina "Maggie" Griffin. She is survived by her daughters, Ellen Radford (David) of Mooresboro, Melissa Hawkins (Nigel) of Caroleen and Ruby Arrowood (Shannon) of Forest City; grandchildren, Amanda Sherbert (Chris) of Shelby, Brooklyn Radford of Henrietta, Adam Arrowood, Joshua Arrowood, Stephen Arrowood, Lydia Arrowood and Jacob Arrowood all of Forest City; great-grand- children, Isabella, Addison, Joseph and Brodie; broth- er, Marshall "Buck" Griffin of Gaffney; sister, Margie Scruggs of Mayo, SC; and a special sister-in-law, Evelyn Swanson of Belmont, NC. A graveside service was held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at Camp's Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Andy Oliver, and Chaplain Cy Miller officiat- ing.
