Stam One way only Religious Viewpoint by Clyde Dupin See MINUTES on 3 See R AMBLINGS on 3 Continued on page 2 Continued in next column "Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus"(2 Tim. 2:1). As Paul prepared to leave this life, he longed to leave Timothy with a few part- ing instructions to encourage him in the faith. The apostle knew that his young friend was easily discouraged. Of course, some of the circumstances Timothy faced as he defended the faith would be enough to dishearten the most seasoned veter- an of the Cross today (Acts 19:23-41 cf. 1 Tim. 1:2,3). Paul affectionately refers to Timothy as "my son." Although Timothy was not Paul's son in the flesh, the aged apostle had led him to the Lord; therefore, he was his son in the faith. As a result, there was a very special relationship between them. Timothy might have had ten thousand in- structors in Christ, but he only had one spiritual father who loved him like a son. Thus, Paul challenges him to be strong in grace. Grace is God's unmerited favor toward those who are undeserving. Timothy, "be strong," don't let others rob you of the grace that you've freely re- ceived. And legalism will do just this if we allow it. It's the enemy of grace. Like Assembly of God Baptist Baptist Continued in next column VERIFY WITH YOUR CHURCH Due to evolving changes, it is recommended that readers verify church services prior to attending. The following items are accurate as of Tuesday, April 14 at 10 a.m. We live in a period when multicultur- alism is the politically correct way to view even the unchanging facts. Even in evangelical churches we see universal- ism slowly creeping in. In a world where billions seem to live without God and form beliefs different from the Bible, many are confused. There is a teaching that no one has a corner on truth and all religions lead to the same place or to nowhere. In this pagan atmos- phere of confusion, Christians must hold to the inspired Word of God. It is the on- ly religion that fills the human soul with faith, hope and love. When our young people go away to a secular college, they may even face a postmodern phi- losopher bashing Christianity in a math class. The in- tellectual elite feel it is their job to be- come faith wreck- ers. The emptiness of their lonely souls feel compelled to draw others down. They are led by the elite media, Hollywood social media and corrupt politicians. A new era of Social- Well another week of stay-at-home iso- lation and I don't think we are ever go- ing to be done with it. I don't complain much about the order because my wife and I didn't go that much. For others it is becoming extremely boring. We have been mushroom hunting a cou- ple of times and have had all kinds of catch up chores around the home so it has been somewhat beneficial for us. Hope you all are hanging in there. We had a severe storm Wednesday night and it left many out of power and several roads were blocked by large trees. Our power went off and came back on several times and each time we just thought there it goes. But we happened to be one of the lucky families who didn't lose electric service. We sure had lots of limbs to pick up and it took my grandson and I about all day to clean up our yard. We helped one neighbor with a limb in his yard as well. The next morning we helped another neighbor with a large limb out of one of her trees. See VIEWPOINT on 3 Baptist WASHINGTON ASSEMBLY OF GOD 320 S. "He will once again fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouts of joy" ( Job 8:21, NLT). When was the last time you shouted with joy? In these difficult times, we grow weary, have more heartaches, we get tired and wonder what has hap- pened to our joy. We for- get and need to be remind- ed that God is our source of joy. It is time to reflect on God's love for us. "Remind us today, Lord, of the things that are good and the many reasons we have to smile. Thank you for your love"—Amen. I receive a lot of joy knowing that peo- ple were united together to worship the risen Lord, Je- sus. While COVID-19 did not stop Easter, there is no doubt that it keeps interrupt- ing our lives. Schools are closed, children are learn- ing at home, businesses are hurting financially (as are many families), and people are becoming frustrated at the ongoing crisis. It seems every day people are cancel- ing, postponing, or re-sched- uling events as the crisis constantly brings more bad news. Un- fortunately, it is easy when all goes well to lose our per- spective. Instead, we must learn like Paul to be con- tent in whatever state we find ourselves. The important thing is to have one consuming passion: to please Christ. Then, whatever happens, we know He has permitted it a place to teach us and to perfect us for His service. He will enrich our circum- stances, be they pleasant or disagreeable, by His pres- ence with us. If at any time you don't have a church to attend, feel free to join us for services.
