The Press-Dispatch Church Wednesday, April 15, 2020 B- 3 MINUTES Continued from page 1 PAWS WEEK PAWS WEEK Pet of the SALEM RAMBLINGS Continued from page 1 Pentecostal Presbyterian Wesleyan VIEWPOINT Continued from page 1 ism is coming and they see faith in God as the big- gest obstacle to change. I have been to Russia many times before and after the Iron Curtain came down. A fter 70 years of social- ism and war on God it failed. Many Russians would tell me they always thought there might be a God. Our greatest need in America today is a vi- brant Christian faith with an emphasis on evange- lism and a personal rela- tionship with Christ. I ap- peal to pastors to declare the truth that Jesus was fully divine and fully hu- man. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. In this time of a pluralistic and religiously diverse cul- ture, we dare not forsake our faith or fail to stand true to the Bible. Jesus is the Son of God and only Savior for our messed up world. the Pharisees, the legal- ist wants to set the stan- dard, which he decrees to be the measure of spiritu- ality. Legalists love to de- velop an unspoken list of do's and don'ts for others to follow. You must con- form to what they have established as acceptable behavior in regard to how you should dress or act, or what reference Bible you must carry, or how ma- ny church services you should attend through- out the week. Failure to conform is a sure indica- tion that you are not very spiritually minded. Beloved, God has giv- en us the standard we are to follow in His Word; it's called GR ACE! To- day, we are not under the Law, nor are we to sub- mit ourselves to those who believe they are the final authority as to how the Christian life should be lived. Grace teaches us how to live; it is patient, understanding, and toler- ant. Grace always leaves room for differences. It's never judgmental (1 Cor. 4:5). So then, Timothy was not to allow anyone to rob him of the liberty he enjoyed in Christ, nor should we. "Be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus." We haven't had or- ganized church servic- es for about three weeks now and it is something I preach about is being courteous and helpful to your neighbors. While we were working on her tree another neighbor came over to pitch in and two saws cut twice the wood. I give God credit for show- ing us all the chance to be there for one another. Sunday was Easter and it just didn't feel like a nor- mal Easter Sunday be- cause there was no break- fasts with early morning services and no commu- nion service. I don't want you to lose your hope, your smile, your kind- ness, and most of all your love for one another. This will be over one of these days and we will be able to worship together and learn from one another. Until then keep your head up and love one anoth- er as God has taught you through the Holy Spirit. You know by now the way I feel about some things and that I do my best to treat people fair- ly. We know fair is not al- ways equal and for some people it doesn't figure to be justice. I'm talking about the stimulus pack- age and the way some of our essential people are actually losing money be- cause it seems as though they are missing out on some extra income giv- en by the government. This might have been an oversight or perhaps they were so busy trying to get their pet bills includ- ed that they didn't care. Whatever the reason our government should re-vis- it this situation and try to compensate these work- ers with some form of bo- nus to thank those people who were deemed essen- tial. This by the way is just another reason why our elected government of- ficials should have term limits instead of becom- ing career politicians. I apologize right now for the people this thought might make angry, but it is true most people who have power sometimes abuse their power. Well to finish my ram- bling thoughts we'll go back to Easter services or not having Easter ser- vices. I think the virus has had people thinking out- side the normal and it is once again true if there is a will there can be found a way. As easy and as in- nocently this virus can be spread I'm glad our church didn't have ser- vices because the last thing anyone would want to do is spread this poten- tially deadly virus to any- one else. We must pray and trust our Lord to bring us back to some kind of normali- ty. This virus has not re- leased us from the duty to be a blessing to others. At that thought love one an- other and serve the Lord. "A thing of beauty, strength and grace lies behind that whiskered face"—Anonymous. This week, PAWS is fea- turing a very mellow fellow named Salem, who can of- ten be found in the office at PAWS napping on his favorite bed or looking out the window in hopes of see- ing a bird on the lawn. Salem is a very friend- ly fellow and loves to have his neck scratched by any volunteer coming through the office. He is a short- haired tabby, with tiger- striped fur with white ac- cents, long white whiskers, golden eyes and is approx- imately 18 months old. Sa- lem can be adopted by call- ing 812-354-9894. HOUSE OF MERCY CHURCH Corner of East and Porter Winslow Pastor 812-789-5229 A Church with open arms and a loving heart. We are on Facebook live at 10 :30 a.m. Sunday morn- ings bringing the Word of God through preaching and teaching. We will be using this format until the time we can come together again in our churches. We need to continually pray for those who are seeing that we have food, protection and household needs. Continue to pray Psalm 91 over your life daily, and look at II Chronicles 7:14 to see if there is something you need to pray about. We will get through this and I believe that nothing but good will arise out of all this. Be blessed this week. Pray for our president and all government entities, and also for those in nursing homes, hospitals, loved ones and your neighbors. Go forth and reach a life for Jesus this week. God's Servant, George Bruce, Jr., Pastor OAKLAND CITY FIRST PENTECOST Hwy. 64 East Normal hours are Sun- day morning at 9:30 a.m. and Sunday and Wednes- day evening services at 6 p.m. All times are CDT (Gibson Co.) We are currently follow- ing the mandate to not as- semble. We were created in God's image, therefore we are spiritual beings. We live in a body and possess a soul. When we exercise faith, it gives us connection to God. If we exercise fear, then our spirit is connect- ed to the enemy. In these days, plead the blood of Je- sus over your household, just as the Jews did. Then have faith that this plague will pass over you. Speak His divine protection over your loved ones. Hang on to your faith, that what you have asked, in faith believing, He will do. Ron Vickers, Pastor Elaine Young, Reporter, 812-749 -1122 (leave a mes- sage). MAIN STREET PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH 10th and Main Streets, Petersburg 812-354-6844 Sunday worship 10 :30 a.m. Come visit us, our doors are always open to you. Alpha Mu Omega The Greek letters that begin the words "yester- day," "today" and "forev- er" remind us of Jesus' constant presence with us personally and his eternal nature that transcends time as we know it. "Jesus Christ is the same yester- day and today and forev- er" (Hebrews 13:8, NIV ). Dozens of psalms and oth- er Bible passages also proclaim that the Lord's "steadfast love endures forever" (i.e. Psalm 100 :5, NSRV ). What a reassuring message when life seems troublesome and fleeting. Office hours: 9 a.m.- noon, Monday-Friday. Amy Melhiser, Secre- tary OTWELL WESLEYAN CHURCH 2277 N. If anyone has a need, you can call the pastor at 812- 354-3028. There was a large group of people gathered. On one side of the group stood a man, Jesus. On the oth- er side stood another, Sa- tan. Separating them was a fence running through the group. The scene set, both Jesus and Satan began call- ing to people in the group. One by one, each having made up his or her own mind, went to either Jesus or Satan. This kept going for a time. Soon enough, Jesus had gathered around him a group of people from the larger crowd, as did Satan. One man joined neither group. He climbed the fence that was there and sat on it. Jesus and his people left and disappeared, and so too did Satan and his people. The man on the fence sat alone. As this man sat, Satan came back, looking for something which he appeared to have lost. The man said, "Have you lost something? " Satan looked straight at him and replied, "No, there you are. Come with me." The man said, "But I sat on the fence. I chose neither you nor him." Satan said, "That's okay; I own the fence." "Whoever is not with me is against me"—Jesus in Matthew 12:30.
