Two arrested on drunken driving charges By Andy Heuring Two people were arrested on drunk- en driving chargers last week in Pike County. Robert Drew, 62, of 312 E. Spruce St. Princeton was arrested last Wednes- day night by State Trooper Hunter Manning. Trooper Manning said at about 6 p.m. Pike County's central dispatch received a 911 call about a man driv- ing about 10 mph on Main St., Winslow and swerving all over the road. Man- ning said while he was driving there he was told the vehicle had pulled in- to the gas station at Factory and Main streets. They then got a call that a mo- torist saw the vehicle stopped in the middle of Highway 61 near Pike Cen- tral then turned around and went south on Highway 61. Manning said when he located the vehicle it was still driving south and he was saw it go left of center. He stopped Drew near CR 150 S. Manning and Jones approached Drew and said Drew had red watery eyes, slow movements and speech and they could smell the odor of alcohol. Drew told police he had a couple beers. He failed field sobriety tests and was transported to the Daviess Community Hospital due to his level of intoxication. Drew tested 0.342 per- cent for blood alcohol content, which is more than four times the legal limit of 0.08 percent. A fter being cleared by the hospital he was taken to the Pike County Jail, where he was charged with operating a vehicle while intox- icated. A Petersburg man was arrested at about 4 p.m. last Friday after police stopped to check on a vehicle stopped in the east bound lane of River Road. Pike County Chief Deputy Dal- las Killian said while he was on rou- tine patrol he saw a vehicle stopped on River Road. Deputy Killian said he stopped to check on it and found Bri- an Pride, 55, of 1302 Sycamore St. Pe- tersburg with the car. Pride told police he was with other people and the car had broke down and they had left him. Deputy Kilian said he immediately smell the odor of alcohol while talk- ing with Pride, who was also slurring his speech. Killian said Pride appeared to be ex- tremely intoxicated, so he went to his patrol car and asked for assistance. While he was calling for assistance, he said Pride went to the front of his vehicle and urinated. Pride then admitted he had been with other people and said he had two or three beers, according to Killian's report. Pride failed field sobriety tests in- cluding a portable breath test which he tested 0.24 percent, which is three times the legal limit in Indiana. He was taken to the Pike County Jail, where he refused a blood alcohol content test. He was preliminarily charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a prior conviction in the last sev- en years.
