The Press-Dispatch Church Wednesday, Januar y 15, 2020 C- 3 RAMBLINGS Continued from page 1 Continued in next column Continued from page 2 Lutheran read, eating out makes di- eting harder because you see so many things you like and most them are not on your allowed food lists. Our Sunday school used a little read book named Song of Solomon. It was a little hard to understand the poetic nature of the lesson, but we could see that the writer was doing his best to get this girl to be a part of his life. She was reluctant and he was using what we would call complimentary seduction or "come ons." Our lesson ended before the girl went with him. I can't honestly tell you how this lesson in- volved any of us. Unless be- ing careful how we listen to others who have their own interests in mind when ev- er they are complimenting you. We used two very well known stories from the Bible to bring a message about second chances. Jo- nah was called to deliv- er a message to Ninevah. He ran from God because he knew God was a forgiv- ing God. He knew Ninev- ites would repent and they wouldn't be destroyed in 40 days. The story is well known but a couple of les- sons can be taken from this story. If God calls you the call stays whether you ac- cept or not and if you are granted a second chance like Jonah was don't ruin it. Do as God has asked. The second fellow was Samson who was a Naz- arene and had never had his hair cut because it was their signature trait. Sam- son's great strength was attributed his hair and a promise from God to his family. This account happens during the time when the Philistines were always against the Hebrews and Samson's strength could have served his people well. Samson was more in- terested in the Philistine girls and showing off his great strength that he nev- er did much good for his people. He toyed with Deli- lah about the root of his strength and took it for granted for God to be with him. He finally told her the truth and as a reward for telling her he was cap- tured easily and with eyes gouged out was an easy mark for them. While the lords of the Philistines were at the tem- ple Samson prayed for his strength to return so his death would make good what he could have accom- plished with his blessed life. God answered and re- stored his strength and Samson died pulling down the temple where the Phi- listines lords were killed as well. If you need a second, third or even more of a sec- ond chance to be right with God do what it takes and don't forget to be blessing to all you meet next week. Even in our times of gen- uine struggle and pain, we can know God's peace and permit it to rule our hearts. And in that peace, we'll find reminders of all that we've been given in Christ. In that, we can truly be thankful. What do you need to stop complaining about? What do you have to thank God for to- day? "God, how often I com- plain about things that are more inconveniences. So many trials come in- to our lives and along with the business of life. These things can easily choke out the Life of God in us. But praise God, "But seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things will be added unto you" (Matthew 6:33). What things will be add- ed? Keith Chanley, Pastor me never to lose sight of your goodness. Give me a heart full of gratitude"—Amen. Josh Sanders, Pastor Sherry Julian, Reporter we may find ourselves mov- ing into the seasons of I want or I need. The temptation is to begin to move our fo- cus away from Jesus to our- selves. When we do that we begin to find issue with our lives—I need more money to pay the bills, more time to do all I want, more things to clutter our houses. Now our minds begin to focus on that new wardrobe for spring or the new car for the drive- way. Before long we have no time or resources for Jesus because, well, Lord, I need all these things. As he starts his letter to the church at Corinth, Paul reminds that church that God has already provided for them. God has already given them the gifts they need to witness to the glory of God's kingdom. If God has already given you enough for what you need, and equipped you to witness to his glory in Jesus Christ, why are you al- ways asking for more? Let's talk about this on Sunday. God bless. This is when my perspective be- gan to change. Instead of making resolutions, I began making goals for myself. Having goals can center us, keep our eyes on Christ and encourage us to grow. With- out goals, we can flounder, feel lost, or lose track of our purpose. It's never to late to consid- er making goals in the New Year, use this as a starting point and personalize your goals. Let me get you start- ed—Put God first and then all the rest will come togeth- er. We invite all of you to come and worship with us. Roy Stilwell, Pastor Pam Lemond, Reporter
