C-2 Church Wednesday, Januar y 15, 2020 The Press-Dispatch Continued from page 1 Continued on page 3 Continued in next column Continued in next column "It's as if they wake up every morning, and sud- denly it's a new day: they are so alert and full of ex- citement and expectation, wondering what adven- tures lie in store for them. The world would certainly be a happier place if more humans were awake with such joy"—Jackie Stewart. This week, PAWS is fea- turing a boisterous young gal named Alyx, who is al- ways looking for a new ad- venture. She loves to walk, fetch toys (as the one she has in her mouth), adores human attention, does not meet a stranger, has short, shiny black fur with white accents, is approximate- ly two years old, has all her shorts, and is spayed and ready for her forever home. To adopt Alyx, call 812-354-9894. "I am writing to God's church in Corinth, to you who have been called by God to be his own holy people. He made you holy by means of Christ Jesus, just as he did for all people everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Je- sus Christ, their Lord and ours" (I Corinthians 1:2, NLT). Paul was given a special calling from God to preach about Jesus Christ. Each Christian has a job to do, a role to take, or a contribu- tion to make. One assign- ment may seem more spec- tacular than another, but all are necessary to carry out God's greater plan for his church. As you discov- er what he calls you to do, be ready to do it. We are remembering those in our church and ar- ea who are in need of God's healing touch. Also, be in prayer for our country and our leaders as we face dif- ficult times. God hears and answers prayer. We invite you to worship with us. Ralph Newkirk, Pastor Marla Morrison, Report- er CROSSROADS BAPTIST CHURCH 2789 S. Dr. Robert Asa, Minister other Christians our praise to God and to give Him op- portunity to speak to us." "If we do not sing the hymns, if we do not pray dur- ing the prayers, if we do not meditate during the prelude and the communion, if we do not give during the offering, if we do not listen during the reading and preaching of the Word, we have become spec- tators and not worshipers." Because He lives. John Manges, Minister many times, in many ways, those who loved God and were devoted to his ways, were put to the test. These usually came in the form of interruptions. Moses was interrupted from his du- ty and obligations at the burning bush. Paul's mis- sion was interrupted on the road to Damascus. Mary's life as a young woman was dramatically interrupted by the conception of God's on- ly son. When you get down to it, many times, for the dra- matic intervention of God in his world, he chose to inter- rupt his people so that he might work through them. The question is are we in- terruptible? Are we quick to get frustrated when people interrupt us from our work? Could we be on the verge of partnering with God to see a miracle in someone's life, but we come up short be- cause we can't deal with an interruption? This year, let's be on the look out for how and where God wants to interrupt our lives for his glory. It's diffi- cult, and at first, it can be nerve-racking and frustrat- ing. But let's see when we're willing what God can do in and through us. May we be, this year, "transformed by the renewing of our minds." "A fter these things, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am your shield and your exceed- ing great reward" (Genesis 15:1). Our reward for trusting God is God Himself, and His protection. He protects us from the lasting effects of evil and our sins when we truly choose to follow Him. He won't protect us from ourselves when we choose things that oppose His will. In choosing self and not trusting God fully, we have removed Him and His pro- tection. All I need to know I learned from Noah's Ark 1. Don't miss the boat. 2. Remember that we're all in the same boat. 3. Plan ahead. It wasn't raining when Noah built the ark. 4. Stay fit. When you're 600 years old, you may be asked to do something re- ally big. 5. Don't let critics get you down, do what needs to be done. 6. Build your future on high ground. 7. Speed isn't always an advantage. Snails and chee- tahs were on board. 8. When you're stressed, float awhile. 9. The ark was build by amateurs, the Titanic by professionals. 10. No matter the storm, when you're with God, there's always a rainbow waiting. Author Unknown. Samuel Kinnaman, Pas- tor Doris Catt, Reporter UNION COMMUNITY CHURCH 3082 N. Feb. 27-March 1—Youth Convention with Evangelist Rev. Joey Pyle. "And Peter followed afar off" (Luke 22:54). Peter had a great begin- ning. He was one of the first to follow Jesus. He was priv- ileged to walk on the water at Jesus' bidding. He was in the inner circle of Jesus' dis- ciples. He was one of those who went to the Mount of Transfiguration with Jesus. Peter was convinced that he would be faithful to the end. But Peter made some grave mistakes that caused him to backslide. Peter fol- lowed afar off. Christians should keep close to Christ. When they do, they will be near to each other. That is what is meant by "the fellow- ship of the saints." It is the sheep that stays on the edge of the flock that is caught by the wolf. Then, Peter "sat down among them." He was with the enemies of Christ, and he was not there to bear testimony for the Lord. Fi- nally, Peter denied the Lord. Oh! The dangers of living at a distance from Christ. There is always a way back, but there is so much heart- ache along the way. Oh, for a closer walk with Thee. Near to Thy side I ever would be. Shield me and hide me. Con- stantly guide me into a clos- er walk with Thee"—Haldor Lillenas. Chad Searls, Pastor call 812-582-1486 or 812- 582-8222.
