The Press-Dispatch Church Wednesday, December 25, 2019 C- 3 Continued from page 2 Presbyterian Presbyterian Nazarene Wesleyan SPURGEON UNITED METHODIST CHURCH 11505 N. Hwy. 61 Spurgeon Pastor Cell 812-202- 8903 or church office 812-766-3344 Facebook: Otwell United Methodist Church and Jeff Pinney. Otwell United Method- ist invites you to join us this Sunday at 10 :30 a.m. as we worship our Lord Jesus Christ; Sunday school, 9:30 a.m. "So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become ma- ture, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ" (Ephesians 4:11-13, NIV ). Jeff Pinney, Pastor 812-922-8215 Church service 9 a.m.; Sunday school 10 a.m.; Thursday Bible study at 1 p.m. "The angel went to Mary and said, 'Greetings, you who are highly favored. The Lord is with you.' Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be" (Luke 1:28 -29, NIV ). We too can be surprised by God. If we look, we may see God in the expectant eyes of a child or the des- perate look in the face of someone who is homeless or hungry. We can bring God's presence into the empti- ness of families grieving the death of a loved one. During Advent, we can look beyond our busyness to see God in unexpected places. Prayer: "Dear God, give us eyes to see, ears to hear, and minds to recognize your presence in the midst of our hectic lives"—Amen. This verse says, "For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord." We hope that you will take time to reflect on the true mean- ing of Christmas. Christ- mas is a time to celebrate the birth of Jesus, our Lord and Savior. He came to this earth to die willingly for our sins on the cross. That is right. He loved us that much. So amid the presents, cookie decorating and Christmas parties, remember that Je- sus is the reason for the sea- son. The Lost Purse A lady lost her handbag in the bustle of Christmas shopping. It was found by an honest little boy and re- turned to her. Looking in her purse, she commented, "Hmmm.... That's funny. When I lost my bag, there was a $20 bill in it. Now there are twenty $1 bills." The boy quickly replied, "That's right, lady. The last time I found a lady's purse, she didn't have any change for a reward." Merry Christmas to you and your family. We invite all of you to come and worship with us. Roy Stilwell, Pastor Pam Lemond, Reporter van route in Petersburg to pick anyone up. Come vis- it us, our doors are always open to you. Keeping Christmas Are you willing to be- lieve that love is the stron- gest thing in the world — stronger than hate, stron- ger than evil, stronger than death — and that the blessed life which began in Bethlehem [two thousand] years ago is the image and brightness of the Eternal Love? Then you can keep Christmas. And if you can keep it for a day, why not always? But you can never keep it alone. Office hours: 9 a.m.- noon, Monday-Friday. Boyd Heldring, Pastor Amy Melhiser, Secre- tary Petersburg Holiness Church has Sunday morning Christmas program More than two dozen of the 116 vacation bible school children participated in a Sunday morning Christmas program at the Petersburg Holiness Church on December 22.
