The Press-Dispatch Wednesday, December 25, 2019 C-1 CHURCH Submit church items: Call: 812-354-8500 Email: news@pressdispatch.net or bring in a hard copy: 820 E. Poplar Street, Petersburg The other authorities are the pastors, dea- cons and elders of God's church. They are definitely ordained by the Lord. God plac- es these positions in place to help us main- tain our Spiritual being while the other au- thorities are there for our physical well be- ing and as a perimeter for our lives. I would love to sing and sound just like the people who's songs we sing, but I can't and never will. So we sing their songs with the best interpretation we can to entertain others. We are not professionals and we will mess up from time to time, but rest as- sured we are doing our best at the time. I feel sorry for Steve when I sing. Following me couldn't be easy because I often sing some of our list differently often so he has to stay on his toes. What has happened to Petersburg's Mc- Donalds and it looks like what I have been asking each of us to do and that is support our local people as much as possible. There were two sandwiches I could eat since I am trying to diet. Closing the doors was the last thing I ever imagined of a McDonalds. Hopefully something else will take their place but whoever opens there will need our support. We should be careful of being critical of one another because our words can either build up or tear down another's will and de- meanor. If you have an answer which helps then by all means offer your suggestion but don't allow your remarks be made in such a way that you become abrasive. You will have lost your chance to help someone. Well not much more to add today so go about God's business and be a blessing to someone. You never know when you could be the one being blessed. "If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you- ward" (Ephesian 3:2). Could it be that those to whom Paul ad- dressed his Ephesian letter had not yet heard that God had committed to him "the dispensation of grace"? Next to the death and resurrection of Christ, the conversion of Paul and his com- mission to proclaim "the gospel of the grace of God" was the greatest event in history. The apostles at Jerusalem had recognized the importance of Paul's part in the divine program. They themselves had at first been sent by Christ into "all the world," yet in Ga- latians 2:9, we find James, Peter and John publicly shaking hands with Paul in a sol- emn agreement that he should henceforth be the apostle to the nations. Could it be that some twelve years later, when he wrote the Ephesian letter, there were any who professed the name of Christ who had not heard of Paul's special place in the program of God as the apostle of grace? Little wonder his words "if ye have heard" carry with them a touch of reproach. It is possible, of course, that there were some among them, but recently brought in- to the Church, who had not heard, but what seems utterly incredible is that there should be even one believer at this late date who has not heard that after Christ and His king- dom had been rejected and the world was ripe for prophesied judgment to fall, God intervened, saving Saul, His chief enemy on earth, and sending him forth with "the good news of the grace of God." This good news is based, of course, upon the fact that since Christ was the spotless Lamb of God, His death is accepted by God as full satisfaction for the sinner. Thus Paul, by divine inspiration, declares that believ- ers are "justified freely by His [God's] grace through the redemption that is in Christ Je- sus" (Romans 3:24). Minutes with the Bible By Pastor Cornelius R. Stam A church culture without absolutes Religious Viewpoint by Clyde Dupin Almost every denomination is facing problems which are complex and hard to understand. Young people are leaving the faith and religious traditions of their par- ents. This is a new phenomenon, especial- ly in America. These many changes should be of re- al concern to the church. I have spent 60 years in full-time ministry and have seen denomination after denomination hi-jacked by liberal leaders who appear on the scene and assume places of leadership. The prob- lem stems from both our public education schools and once religious colleges and uni- versities. Many things relating to God and the absolutes of the Bible have disappeared. Emerging in the Protestant church is an over emphasis on tolerance and universal- ism. The Bible is no longer the absolute true revelation of God. In the Catholic Church, we see a great acceptance of abortion and liberation theology among non-practicing Catholics. Many of the long held tradition- al absolutes are questioned by the newly ed- ucated generation. Young people are interested in faith but tend to reject the religion of their par- ents. They feel little loyalty to the faith they were taught as children. They lean more toward moral relativism. They like to make their own moral standards and choose whatever de- nominations that meet their needs. Many on secular college campuses claim to be spiritual but have no interest in any church. Most of this group has had their faith destroyed by ungodly professors. Ma- ny are openly taught to reject the faith of their parents and to embrace the teaching of socialism and a global religion of plural- ism. Some say in the end we are all going to the same place, so why get involved with a church and the Bible? Our youth have grown up in a culture with all the emphasis on self. This moral climate in our schools and uncertainty in our churches has left them confused with no absolutes to guide them. Finally got to help my friends unload a food truck Monday. Been so busy lately we haven't had time to help. It felt good to be helpful for a change. It seems as though I've counting on others to take up my slack. Steve and I have entertained three time sso far this week and Saturday we have a double play in Jasper. We have one at 2 p.m. and another at 4 p.m. A double leaves your fingers looking like a piece of cardboard and they sometimes get fairly tender. I've been asked to get this article in by Fri- day and it won't contain much about church. I plan to bring a sermon about authority and how it is ordained by God. There is an au- thority that Satan has, but his authority ends when we listen to God's ordained au- thorities. His ordained authorities are in our government which hopefully they are in the grace of God and act as a represen- tative Of Him. It has been proven time and time again that the man isn't nearly as im- portant as the authority he represents. You don't have to respect the person in author- ity but you should always show respect for the position.
