AMBULANCE Continued from page 1 cation. The new contract, which will pay the Patoka Fire District $750 a month, will replace their contract with Trinity Ambulance Ser- vice. EMS Director Chris Young said Pike's EMS had been keeping an ambulance at Trinity's location near the Arthur Jct. of Highways 64 and 61 since about 2014. Pike County's contract with Trinity expires on De- cember 31, 2019. Young said the Pike EMS had been pay- ing about $1,200 a month. The new deal will save Pike County about $450 a month. At a previous commission- ers' meeting in November, Cory Whitehead, who owns Trinity, said he did not want to have a lease term of less than five years. Young said he did not want the EMS to agree to a contract that long. "Five years is a long time," said Young. The new contract has no time frame. "The term is as long as you want until a 90 -day notice is given," said County Attorney Val Fleig. "I understand Patoka is going to do some remod- eling to make some adjust- ments to add bedding to their building," said Flint. Young confirmed that was the plan. In other business, the commissioners approved ac- cepting a grant that will help pay for a full scale emergen- cy response exercise. Pike Emergency Management Agency Director Ryan Ben- ner said they typically had just done table top exercis- es with multiple exercises. But this grant will allow a full-scale, multi-agency and multi-county exercise. Benner said no date for the exercise has been sched- uled. The commissioners also voted to enact the Frost Or- dinance. It places a 10 -ton weight limit on numerous roads throughout the coun- ty from January 1, 2020 to March 31, 2020. The next meeting is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Monday, January 6, 2020 in the courthouse auditorium. McDONALDS Continued from page 1 not having a good fast food restaurant. "I was talking with my father and he said, 'You never see a McDonald's going out of business.' So I got a contact of a person in McDonald's corporate of- fices in Indianapolis. Even- tually, he told me politely you just don't have the pop- ulation and traffic count we need." Harris told the PES stu- dents that and told them if they disagreed with him to write him a letter about it. Harris received 260 plus let- ters. He forwarded copies of those to his contact in Indi- anapolis. "He called me and said, 'Well, you win,'" said Harris. They put him in touch with Frank Ball, of Evans- ville, who eventually opened the McDonald's in Peters- burg. Ball, after about eight years, then sold the store to the Nowakowskis, of Vin- cennes. Patrick Charles Cox, 19, of 414 W. Factory St., Win- slow, was arrested on Friday, December 13. Petersburg Police Sgt. Chad McClellan said he noticed someone had con- tacted an online decoy and he started a conversation with that person, posing as a 13-year-old girl. The Face- book profile of Cox was used to contact the girl. According to a probable cause affidavit, McClellan said Cox started asking if the decoy would date and have sex with him. The de- coy reminded him she was 13 years old. Cox's response was "ok," they would just have to play it DL, slang for down low, and she couldn't tell anyone. They then made plans for the decoy to meet him. A f- ter her mother went to sleep, the decoy was to slip out of the house and be picked up by Cox, and he would take her to his house to have sex. She asked him about get- ting pregnant and he said he would take precautions. Sgt. McClellan said at one point Cox had the girl send a test to the phone 812-582- 9103 and he responded to those messages. He was to meet her at Mc- Donald's. McClellan said Cox sent a text to the de- coy saying he had arrived at the Dollar General Store. Police were observing and saw a car matching the de- scription of the car he said he would be in. He then sent a text saying he was going to be moving to McDonald's. McClellan, in the affida- vit, said he watched Cox drive towards McDonald's and police surrounded him and took him into custody. His vehicle was impound- ed and during an inventory, Sgt. McClellan said police recovered a cellphone and dash camera. According to the affidavit, during an interview, Cox ad- mitted he had come to town to meet a girl named Mad- dy he met online. He said she was 13 and admitted he talked about having sex with her, and drove to see her, but denied that he would have done it. Cox is charged with child solicitation, child under 14 using computer network and travels to meet child, a level 4 felony. A level 4 felony is punish- able by two to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Winslow teen arrested for child solicitation By Andy Heuring A Petersburg man was ar- rested early last Thursday morning after police were called to a domestic dispute. Wade L. Hurdle, Jr., 62, of 216 SE First St., Loogoo- tee, was arrested by Indiana State Trooper C. J. Boeck- man at about 3:30 a.m. Trooper Boeckman said the Pike County Dispatch got a 911 call about a man with a knife in an argument with another man in David King's driveway at 1342 E. CR 550 N., Petersburg. Trooper Boeckman and Pike County Deputy Sher- iff Mike Willis responded, and on their way there, they noticed a car turning onto Highway 57 from CR 550 N. They stopped the vehicle and talked with Hurdle, who was driving. He said he had just left King's residence af- ter getting into an argument with King. Hurdle said King had just thrown him out of the residence, so he was go- ing back to Loogootee. While talking with Hur- dle, Trooper Boeckman said he noticed the odor of alco- hol. He said Hurdle also had slurred speech, glassy eyes and poor manual dexterity. Trooper Boeckman said he could also see liquor bottles littering the seat and passen- ger side floor board, as well as an open can of beer in the console. Hurdle failed field sobri- ety tests and was taken to the Pike County Jail, where he tested 0.12 percent for blood alcohol content. The legal limit in Indiana is 0.08 percent. He was charged with op- erating a vehicle while in- toxicated. Loogootee man charged with OVWI The golden arches sign at McDonald's in Petersburg was being taken down on Monday and Tuesday. McDonald's closed Sunday after 24 years in Petersburg.
