Understanding Skin Cancer and the Importance of Cancer Screenings and Prevention - With the sum- mer upon us, Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center is presenting "Understanding Skin Cancer & the Impor- tance of Cancer Screenings and Prevention" on Thursday, July 11 from 6 -7:15 p.m. in Jasper. Oncologist Karim An- war, M.D. will discuss the different types of skin cancer, screening guidelines and tips for prevention. This presentation will be in the Medical Arts Confer- ence Center, located in the Medical Arts Building, 721 W. 13th Street, Jasper. A free dinner will be provided. Sign up to attend Memorial Hospital and Health Care Cen- ter's in-depth breastfeeding class, "Breastfeeding: Get- ting Started." During your time of baby preparation, this educational class can help provide an easier transition into motherhood and breastfeeding. It is recommended that both mother and the support person, who will assist the mother, attend the classes as support is important to breastfeeding success. "Breastfeeding: Getting Started," will be on Wednesday July 3 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Hospital in Board Conference Room B/C, located on the lower level of The LCM Tower, at 800 West 9th Street in Jasper. Leadership Pike County graduation District 64 State Representative Matt Hostettler (below left) was the keynote speaker at the Leader- ship Pike County graduation ceremony last Thursday night in the Pike County Courthouse rotunda. The Purdue sponsored program ran from April 2018 until Thursday. Participants attended sessions on nu- merous topics twice a month. They also developed a plan for a dog park in Petersburg and are working to implement it. Holly Schutter (below right) talked about their dog park project.
