"Forever, O Lord, Your word is settled in heaven" (Psalm 119:89). As we survey the world scene with Bible in hand, we know we do not wor- ship an absentee God. He is standing in the shadows of history, still working to bring His plans to comple- tion. Therefore we are not disturbed by the pictures of chaos, violence, bloodshed, and war that fill our televi- sion screens and flood our newspaper. We know these are the consequences of hu- manity's evil and sin, caused by rebellion against God. Ev- ery headline, every news report confirms what the prophet Jeremiah said cen- turies ago: "The heart is de- ceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it? " ( Jer.17:9). But never forget God will speak history's first word. Every day the world moves closer to the time when Christ will return, Satan will be defeated, and God's per- fect plan will be fulfilled. No matter how foreboding the future, the Christian knows the end of the story and it is glorious. Don't loose heart. The best is yet to be. If at any time you have no church to attend, feel free and join us for services. I am sure you will leave be- ing blessed. Main Street Petersburg 812-354-6775 Regular services: Sunday school 9:30 a.m. and worship service and the Lord's Sup- per at 10 :30 a.m. This last Sunday was Fa- ther's day, and like Mother's day it is a great time that we have to celebrate some won- derful parents in our lives. Some of us are left to re- member the parents we had as they have gone on from this life. However, one thing is for certain that we see now more than ever, ma- ny young people around us have lacked good parents, especially good fathers. The home life now more than ever lacks the presence of good and strong male leadership and influence, and many young men are left growing up without fa- VINCENT CHRISTIAN CHURCH 8264 E. Men who answer Je- sus' call to carry their cross, and show those who grow around them how to do the same. Who will be strong men of God, and lead oth- ers in doing that. We have a heavenly fa- ther who has given us more than we could ever ask for or imagine, and given us the ability to lead and influ- ence others to experience the same. Let us pray this year that more men would answer the call to not only be fathers but be spiritual fa- thers in place of those who are without a father at all. And pray that a generation would rise to fill in the gaps that we miss now. Everyone welcome. DJ Bryant, Pastor Christian Church of Christ BRENTON CHAPEL CHURCH OF CHRIST 1194 E. CR 400 N. Gifts for Growth "As each has received a gift, use it to serve one an- other, as good stewards of God's varied grace" (1 Peter 4:10, NIV ). We all have gifts given to us by God that vary from mu- sical to compassion to teach- ing. This verse reminds us that we are to use these gifts to serve God and magnify him by serving others. Now, don't get excited, this means helping others in their time of need not being their ser- vant. People tend to read this and think that they are to be a slave when this is just not the case. God freed the chil- dren of Israel from slavery and would never condemn us to that fate or similar cir- cumstance. He just says that the gifts that we are given are to magnify him, help others in need and help the body of Christ grow. Remember that God loves you and he wants to bless you and oth- ers through you.
