Your child may have questions about life after death, so it is im- portant that your beliefs and others' beliefs are dis- cussed with them. While all of these prac- tices are helpful to a child during the time of a loss, it important to monitor that the child is able to cope with grief and recover from loss in a healthy manner. If your child does not seem to be doing so, it is important to talk to a doctor or seek out a therapist. Winslow Patoka River is over its banks again, but now it's a lot higher than before. Before it only got up to the beaver, at Riverside Park, but now it has surrounded the Eskimo, which means it has flooded the whole park. This flood has caused the sandbags to be filled and ready if it gets higher. As you travel down the hill on Union from Main, the first street that you cross has water across the road and into a neighbors yard, but Union is open at this time The town workers have sandbagged the lift stations, that usually get flooded when the Patoka goes wild. The rain began over the weekend with torrential rain and wind that the trees swayed back and forth and some trees in the area have lost their limbs or again fell over. Most of the limbs were small in our yards, but the Black- eyed Susans got a big hit with most of them still standing, but all around the edges and half-way into the patch they are laying on the ground, but still blooming. Speaking of flowers, have you seen the beautiful flowers in your neighborhood? I pass by Janie Davis house almost everyday and she has the old flowers like the tiger lily and other types that I remember in grand- ma Laura's yard, and she had a lot of flowers in her yard. Last Sunday a week ago was Fa- thers Day and we hope all you Fa- thers, Dads and Pops had a great day with your loved ones. Norm and I listened to our favorite St. Louis radio station K-SHE. We hear songs from several of our groups, that we hadn't heard in several years. Norm did get a message from our daughter Laura and she wished him a Hap- py Pops Day. Saturday, June 15, was the first Winslow Riverside Flea Market. We had lots of Lions Club mem- bers there to serve breakfast of biscuits and gravy. Two of the ven- dors didn't set-up, because of the thunder and heavy rain. It kept most the vendors away. The Lions had a good time anyway and hope to see a bigger crowd and our reg- ular vendors at the July 20 River- side Flea Market. Later on in the afternoon at Millers Field Shelter House was the Celebration of Life for Bill Moore, where the Ameri- can Legion Post 115 Color Guard had a salute for him. Lots of family and friends were there. We have more wood to cut up for winter and this tree was a sassafras and I clipped some of the roots to make some tea, but first I had to see how to prepare the roots and Laura searched for it and now I know what to do, plus Mike told me more of how to use these roots and now to begin making the tea. We also had a chainsaw break down in the mid- dle of cutting the tree, but after a road trip we finally have all the tree cut and stacked by the cabin. One pile done and several more to stack. Our friend Dixie Wann is in a play called "The Miracle Worker" at the Princeton Theater, this Fri- day, June 21 and Saturday, June 22 and June 28 and June 29 at 7 p.m. Sunday Matinée on June 30, plus Vernon will be one of the ushers. A fter the rain the turtles make their way across the roads. There were two turtles Norm set across the road at Twin Pits to help them out. Later after another rain on Hwy 61, we couldn't stop because of traffic and that one would have needed a different kind of helping hand, cause it looked like a young snapper, but I think he made it safe- ly across the road. Time to dim the lights on this weeks ramblings, but since the temps and humidity is so high and summer has begun, keep an eye on family and friends, slow down for kids playing in their yards and also enjoy your surroundings. Al- ways smile, wave, and say hi to ev- eryone you see this week.
