The theme for 2019 is "Museums as Cultural Hubs: the future of tradition." Special admission prices will apply during the Center's normal operating hours. All youth 17 and under will be admitted free and all oth- ers will receive half off regular admission dur- ing the normal operating hours of 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Introduction to Strings and Instrument Petting Zoo – 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Children ages 3-12 are invited to attend In- troduction to Strings and Instrument Petting Zoo from 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Facilitated by instructors from Wild Roots Fine Arts, this program will introduce various types of string instruments and many musical styles. After the performance and demonstration, children will have an opportunity to try out instruments in age-appropriate break out groups. 30 seats are available and registration is en- couraged. The program is free for child par- ticipants and one accompanying adult. Each child must be accompanied by an adult. Storytelling with Connie Regan-Blake – 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Connie Regan-Blake captivates the hearts and imaginations of people around the world, drawing in listeners with engaging humor and Southern charm. Ranging from hilarious tradi- tional Appalachian Mountain tales to poignant true-life drama, Regan-Blake's stories will de- light listeners of all ages. Join us on Saturday, May 18, for this won- derful opportunity to see one of the most cel- ebrated storytellers traveling the world today in the Great Hall at the Earl Scruggs Center. This program is free for members, for youth 17 and under, and with museum admission. The special admission price for International Museum Day applies. No Man's Land Adventure Film Festival and Discussion Panel The Earl Scruggs Center will reopen in the evening for a special screening of No Man's Land Adventure Film Festival, the premier all-female adventure fi lm festival, and a panel discussion featuring local female adventurers. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., the panel dis- cussion will begin at 7:00 p.m., followed by the screening of No Man's Land at 8:00 p.m. Tickets for this event are $15 and include a beverage of choice and $10 for those under 21 with no beverage included. The Earl Scrug- gs Center is partnering with MountainTrue for this event. Crest High Senior Alexis Aldinger was recognized by Shelby American Legion Post 82 for her participation in the High School Oratorical Contest. Alexis won the post competition and District 23 competi- tion, and was fi rst runner up in the Divi- sion 5 Contest. Post 82 First Vice Com- mander made a presentation to her at the April 8th meeting. She was accompanied by her parents, Dr. Kyle Aldinger and his wife Christa, and her grandparents, Roger and Merridith Martin. Roger joined Post 82 in March.
