West, of Oak- land City, passed away at home on December 1, 2018, from a year's-long battle with kidney failure. Her great loves in life were, (in no particular or- der): good food, dogs and her mother. Raised in the Chicago suburbs, her moth- er taught her to cook and to appreciate great cuisines from the world over—but if pressed, she would probably say Greek food was her fa- vorite. She spent most of her working life in restaurants, sometimes a server and sometimes an owner. The greatest adventure of her life was traveling to Greece and Egypt with her best friend and her mother de- cades ago, when it was still unusual for women to travel unattended by a man in that part of the world. They rode camels in the shadows of the pyramids and ate spanakop- ita to their hearts' content. Closer to home, she al- ways had dogs. Big or small, mutts or purebreds, she loved them all, and she settled comfortably into the role of the small-town crazy dog lady when she moved from the West Coast to Oak- land City in the late 1990s to be closer to family. She lived with her mother (and a pack of dogs) until her mother's death at home from conges- tive heart failure in 2014. To- gether, they frequented ga- rage sales and stockpiled recipes and tried to get flow- ers to grow in the miserable gumbo clay of their yard. She was stubborn as a Shoultz (which is far worse than any mule), creative, pri- vate and kind to those she knew. She loved and was loved, and that's about all we can ask for in the end. She is survived by her dog, Daisy (who has a good home); several nieces; and a nephew. She was preceded in death by her sister, Jan- ice; brother, Herb; father, Ira; and mother, Inez West (Shoultz). There will be no service. In memory of Andra, do- nations may be made to It Takes a Village Canine Res- cue in Evansville. Family has entrusted Lamb-Bash- am Memorial Chapel for pro- fessional assistance. Family and friends may send messages of comfort to www.lambbasham. You are with us always! -Mom & Dad God blessed our lives with a boy, he always was our pride and joy. Our special angel from above, he filled our lives with his love. He had such a beautiful smile, little did we know he would only be with us a short while. All the precious memories we hold so dear, And we know you are always near. You hold a special place in our hearts, so in knowing this we are never far apart. We know you are watching from above, sending us all of your love. We know we will be with you again, and the bond between a parent & child never ends. So until we see you again in heaven up above, we are holding you in our hearts and sending you all our love.
