The Press-Dispatch Sports Wednesday, December 26, 2018 B- 3 "Shots didn't fall and they started getting going. We kind of weathered the storm there in the third (quarter), but then they just kind of put it on us in the fourth." The Alices' second-half rally overshadowed an out- standing performance by the Chargers during the first half, when Pike Central made 11 of 21 field goal at- tempts – including an 0 -for-7 effort from beyond the three- point arc – and were 6 -for-7 from the free throw line and turned the ball over just five times. Vincennes Lincoln, mean- while, made eight of 22 field goal attempts – including one of seven tries from be- hind the three-point line – and were 2-for-2 from the free throw line while turn- ing the ball over seven times during the first half. "We were really battling," Elliott said. "That was a team effort. Our guards were dig- ging. We were doing exact- ly what we were supposed to do, and we just competed." "The second half, I think we just got a little tight," El- liott added. "It was like we realized that we were in this game, and that we had a chance to win this game, and that we can't make mis- takes, and we kind of started to back away from that and weren't playing quite as ag- gressive, and that hurt us." Scott paced Pike Central with 13 points, including 11 during the first half despite picking up his third personal foul with 1:56 left in the sec- ond period. "I thought Ethan was do- ing a great job early on, at- tacking the basket and being aggressive and getting to the free throw line," Elliott said of Scott, who made four of seven field goal attempts and was 3-for-3 from the charity stripe during the first half. During the second half, Scott made just one of four shots from the field. "That second half, wheth- er was fouls or a little timid- ness, he did not attack the RALLIES Continued from page 1 Have a blessed 2019! LET 2019 SHINE! "He kind of faded away on shots, you know, and settled for jumpers instead of getting to the rim." Benson added 11 points while senior Hayden Kabrick and junior Noah Whann tossed in four points each. Sophomore Ethan Gorby came off the bench to score two points while grabbing a team-high five rebounds. Se- nior Judah Leathco also tal- lied two points. For the game, Pike Cen- tral made 15 of 44 field goal attempts – a 34.1 percent av- erage – and hit seven of 12 tries from the free throw line while turning the ball over 10 times. From beyond the three- point line, the Chargers – who were out-rebounded 32- 18, including 20 -8 in the sec- ond half – were 1-for-15. "I wish we could shoot the basketball better here one of these games, but we played well in the first half," Elliott said. "We competed. We played hard. You know, with a young team, they're learning. We don't have a lot of varsity experience, and it's just one of those things where we just have to keep getting better. I think we have to learn how to win a little bit." Elliott said that he saw similarities from the Char- gers' 66 -37 loss at South- ridge on Tuesday, Dec. 18, when Pike Central – trail- ing 32-19 at halftime – were outscored 34-18 in the sec- ond half. That game was the first for Pike Central since a 74- 32 loss to Princeton on Sat- urday, Dec. 1. "That long of a layoff, that's a little bit too long," Elliott said. "I think we See CHARGERS on 4
