The party was a huge success, with every seat taken. The post Auxiliary provided the meal, which was enjoyed by well over 100 kids and adults. Santa was a main feature, along with his elf (Trish Minnis). Below: Former VFW Post 3587 Commander Ray Stilwell and present Commander Chris Kinman addressed the crowd at the VFW Christmas dinner. Stilwell led the group in prayer prior to dinner, and the kids getting their gifts and meeting Santa (Terry Wornica). AREA HAPPENINGS Petersburg Senior Citizens Center - The senior citizens center is open from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday in the Pike County Courthouse basement. A big meal is served on Wednes- day, and the second and fourth Tuesday, a lighter meal is served following Bingo, donations accepted to help with the cost. Everyone is welcome. For more informa- tion, call 812-354-8727. Free Clothing Bank - Oak Grove Church in Oak- land City offers a free clothing bank each Tuesday 9 - 11 a.m. (Oakland City time) for everyone. They carry new and used clothing. Location is on Morton Street, just past Chuckles. Come to the gymnasium door lo- cated at the back of the church. "Creating Hope" For Cancer Patients - Memori- al Hospital and Health Care Center is offering Creat- ing Hope® sessions on the first and second Tuesday of each month from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. These sessions are designed for cancer patients, their families and caregivers. Art materials and an instructional book are available at each session. No previous art experi- ence is needed. Don't Let Late Fees Keep You Out of the Library - The annual Read Away the Fines program is under- way at the Oakland City Public Library December 1- 30. Patrons with overdue fines can have them waived by reading in the library. $1 towards any late item fees will be credited for every 15 minutes of reading in the library. This program is open to all card holders. "Breastfeeding: Getting Started" Jasper – Ex- pecting a baby? Sign up to attend Memorial Hospi- tal and Health Care Center's in-depth breastfeeding class, "Breastfeeding: Getting Started." During your time of baby preparation, this educational class can help provide an easier transition into motherhood and breastfeeding. It is recommended that both mother and the support person, who will assist the mother, attend the classes as support is important to breast- feeding success.
