B-2 Sports Wednesday, December 19, 2018 The Press-Dispatch school career. During a home meet against Vin- cennes Lincoln this past Jan- uary, she won the event with a time of 1:17.31. With the 100 -yard breast- stroke record, Bohnert – who broke her own school record in the 100 -yard but- terfly earlier this season – al- so holds the school records in the 200 -yard freestyle, the 200 -yard individual med- ley, the 50 -yard freestyle, the 100 -yard freestyle, and the 100 -yard backstroke, as well as the 200 -yard medley relay (with Cass Conder, Maya Frederick and Britta- ny Young), and the 200 -yard freestyle relay and 400 -yard freestyle relays (with Quin Bailey, Maya Frederick and Young). Bohnert also broke the school record in the 500 -yard freestyle as a freshman in 2016, which was later broken by Maya Fred- erick in 2017. "My goal is to set them all, and then hope one of the high school girls comes along to share it with," Na- talie Bohnert said. While breaking the breaststroke record was one of Natalie Bohnert's goals this season, Mike Bohnert had told her that she would only get one shot at it. "It made me very nervous, but I think it kind of moti- vated me to get it done this time," Natalie Bohnert said. "If she was close, she may have been able to talk me in- to it," Mike Bohnert said. "Last year, she was a sec- ond off. It was towards the end of the year. We had a lit- tle bit more time this year." However, Mike Bohnert said that the plan was for Na- talie to go back to 100 -yard backstroke, the event in which she has advanced to the state meet each of the past three years. "I'd say she's capable of dropping (the 100 -yard breaststroke record) anoth- er couple if that's what we started focusing on," Mike Bohnert said. "But we've got to go back to the back- stroke, because that's her strong stroke. At sectional, her breaststroke's not going to be her strong suit." "I kind of want to get her back to the backstroke just so we can start working on it, because it's starting to come down," Mike Bohnert added. "She's at a minute, and we're hoping that we can drop that a little quick- er and get down in that 59 or even a 58 before we get to PACs – and start dropping from there." Natalie Bohnert's best time this season in the 100 -yard backstroke is 1:00.20, a time she did not reach last season until she swam a 1:00.12 in a meet against Jasper and Heritage Hills on Jan. 11. A fter post- ing a time of 59.15 seconds during the Pocket Athlet- ic Conference Champion- ship Meet on Jan. 20, Na- talie Bohnert broke her own school record with a time of 58.28 seconds in the section- al finals on Feb. 3. During Wednesday's meet, Natalie Bohnert also placed first in the 200 -yard individual medley with a season-best time of 2:17.06, beating her previous sea- son-best time of 2:19.15. In addition, Natalie Bohnert teamed up with sophomores Charlotte Dudenhoeffer and Jenna Meyer and freshman Emma McKinney to place second in the 200 -yard medley relay with a time of 2:15.45, and with McKinney, Meyer and freshman Madison Riley to place second in the 400 -yard freestyle relay with a time of 4:31.02. In the 400 -yard free- style relay, the Lady Char- gers were in third place – trailing the first-place team from Evansville North by 11.3 seconds – when Natalie Bohnert swam the final leg in 54.17 seconds to finish just 28/100ths of a second behind the Lady Huskies team of Maggie Reagan, Keely Grangier, Isabelle Ed- wards and Katherine Coe. "If she has somebody in front of her that she thinks that she can catch, she's going to have the hammer down," Mike Bohnert said. "So it's fun to watch." Also placing first in indi- vidual events for the Lady Chargers were Dudenhoef- fer in the 200 -yard freestyle, and Meyer in diving with a six-dive score of 178.70 points. Placing second in individ- ual events for the Lady Char- gers were McKinney in div- ing with a season-best six- dive score of 162.85 points, beating her previous sea- son-best score of 144.80 points; and Riley in the 100 -yard backstroke with a time of 1:20.94. Placing third in an indi- vidual event for the Lady Chargers was McKinney in the 100 -yard breaststroke with a time of 1:28.29. Placing third in an indi- vidual event for the Char- gers was Cooper in the 50 -yard freestyle with a time of 26.11 seconds.
