He was born in Evansville on April 16, 1932, to Rader and Lela (Craig) Himsel. He married Rosemary Walters on March 22, 1951. She preceded him in death on March 11, 2009. He was a farmer in the Otwell community and also worked for Englert's Furni- ture Store in Jasper. His memberships include Otwell United Methodist Church, where he served on many church committees. Surviving are one daugh- ter, Brenda (David) Fuhr- man, of Otwell; three grand- children, Timothy (Rachel) Fuhrman, Beth (Chad) Christenson and Brian (Mattie) Fuhrman; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Sue Ellen (Carl) Wening, of Jasper. Preceding him in death be- sides his wife are one daughter, Barbara Ann Himsel. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, December 21, 2018, at Otwell United Meth- odist Church, with Rev. Jeff Pinney officiating. Burial will follow in Burr Oak Cem- etery. Visitation will be from 4- 8 p.m. Thursday at the Be- cher-Kluesner North Chap- el in Jasper and one hour be- fore services on Friday at the church. WILLIAM "BILL" MA X BROTHERS William "Bill" Max Broth- ers, 63, of Petersburg, was called home after his four- year battle with cancer on Wednesday, December 12, 2018, at his home, with fam- ily by his side. He was born July 11, 1955, in Washington, to Wil- bur and Patricia (Sullivan) Brothers. He was a valuable and de- voted Lead Pipeline Opera- tor at Midwestern Gas and Transmission (oneOk) for 43 years. He truly loved his work. In his free time, he could always be found out- side, whether on the mower, in the pool, or in the garden. He was an active member of the Church of the Nazarene in Petersburg. He is survived by his chil- dren, Derek Brothers, of Vincennes; Gavin (Maria) Brothers, of Evansville, and Erica Kueber, of Petersburg; siblings, Tammy (Terry) Queen, Rick (Lisa) Broth- ers, Terry (Debbie) Broth- ers and Keith (Cheri) En- glish; grandchildren, Cassi- dy Brothers, Chayton Broth- ers, Kaleb Kuehn, Keegan Kuehn, Hunter Kuehan and Kenna Brothers; and nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother; father; and sis- ter, Lela Traylor. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. EST, Sunday, Decem- ber 16, 2018, at Harris Fu- neral Home. Burial followed at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. EST on Saturday, De- cember 15, 2018, at the fu- neral home. The family would like to thank Kindred Hospice nurses for their excellent care. JOAN L. (HOUCHIN) BROWN Joan L. (Houchin) Brown, 72, of Jasper, passed away at 10 :05 a.m. Wednesday, December 12, 2018, at her home. She was born in Win- chester, Va., on July 16, 1946, to Ernest and Cleo (Leech) Letterman. She married Gordon Houchin and he preceded her in death on January 9, 2013. She retired from Exec- utive Furniture Company in Huntingburg, where she worked for many years. She was a member of Auxiliary to V.F.W. 3587 and Moose Lodge 1617, both in Peters- burg. She is survived by two daughters, Cathy (Alan) Cherry, of Huntingburg, and Karen (Patrick) An- dry, of Birdseye; one son, Mark Chamness, of Jasper; seven grandchildren; sev- en great-grandchildren; one sister, Jeanette Meyer, of Jas- per; and two brothers, Con- ley (Mary) Letterman, of Jas- per, and Stanley Letterman, of Haysville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Houchin; and one brother, Gayle Letterman. Memorial services were at 1 p.m. Saturday, Decem- ber 15, 2018, at the Bech- er-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper, with buri- al to follow at a later date at Mt Zion Cemetery at Mon- roe City. JUDY ANN (KELLEY) JEFFRIES Judy Ann (Kelley) Jef- fries, 69, of Huntingburg, passed away on Thursday, December 13, 2018, at Me- morial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. She was born November 24, 1949, in Huntingburg, to Charles and Dorothy (Buec- hlein) Kelley. She married Larry David Jeffries on June 29, 1988. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, and camp- ing. She is survived by her husband, Larry Jeffries, of Huntingburg; one daugh- ter, Tammy Mathies, of Jas- per; one son, Robert "Bob- by" Mathies, of Hunting- burg; two stepdaughters, Linda (Scott) Waddle, of St. Anthony, and Tammy ( John) Mann, of Otwell; one step- son, Larry David ( Joy) Jef- fries, Jr., of Jasper; nine grandchildren; three sis- ters, Rose ( John) Schitter, of Haysville, Inez Hines, of Dale, and Cathy (Dan) Are- hart, of Celestine; and one brother, Charles "Buck" Kel- ley, of Marengo. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Carol Chappell; two brothers, Donnie Kelley and Ray Kelley; and a step- son, Darryl Jeffries. "Nuts" Bethe, 76, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2018, at his home in Spurgeon. He was born June 28, 1942, in Haubstadt, to Her- bert, Sr. and Margaret (Singer) Bethe. He is survived by his children, Angela (Kevin) Sparks, of Fort Branch, and Richard (Tina) Bethe, of Spurgeon; siblings, Herby Bethe, Barbara (Don) Phil- lips, Mary ( John) Kes- sler and Jane Schmidt; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a great-niece. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandpar- ents, Bill and Clyde Bethe, and John and Margaret Sing- er; sisters, Rita Bethe and Rose Fuhs; many aunts and uncles; and a brother-in-law, Stan Schmidt. Sanders, 74, of Petersburg, entered rest at 1:11 a.m. on December 15, 2018, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh. She was born May 15, 1944, in Pike County, to Herman and Edith (Gillum) Swain. She married Robert Sand- ers on August 16, 1975, and was a homemaker. She has been a member of Pe- tersburg General Baptist Church for 40 years. She is survived by her husband, Robert; and a brother, Albert Swain. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Oli- ver, Floyd, Ernest, Herbert and James W. Swain; and two sisters, Melvina Swain and Gladys DeJarnett. Services will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, December 19, 2018, at Petersburg Gen- eral Baptist Church, with Pastor Chalmer Burton of- ficiating. Burial will take place at Walnut Hills Cem- etery. LARRY "PAT" DAVIS Larry "Pat" Davis, 83, passed away Thursday, De- cember 13, 2018, at Amber Manor Healthcare in Peters- burg. He was born August 14, 1935, in Algiers, to Floyd and Annis (Bell) Davis. He married Nelda White- head in 1984. She preced- ed him in death on July 12, 2008. He worked as an engi- neer for the Soil Conserva- tion Service. He was also the Pike County Surveyor for 12 years. He was an Army veteran and a member of the Peters- burg Moose Lodge #1617, VFW Post #3587 and the Shriners. He is survived by a daughter, Susan (Mark) Flint; sons, Michael Da- vis and Rex (Glenda) Da- vis; stepchildren, Mark (Becky) Pride, Richard Pride and Glenda (Tom) Mills; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchil- dren; one great-great-grand- child; brother, Roger Davis; sisters, Lavone Hollis and Virginia Polen; and several nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his wife, Nelda; sis- ters, Cleta Davis and Marge Griffith; and brothers, Don- ald Davis, James Davis and Gary Davis. "Nick" Pierce, 38, of Oakland City, entered rest on Friday Dec. 14, 2018, at Deaconess Midtown Hos- pital in Evansville. He was born on Feb. 16, 1980, in Oakland City. He graduated from Wood Memorial High School in 1998 and University of Southern Indiana in 2002. He has worked for UPS in Evansville for 20 years, cur- rently in a management ca- pacity. He was member of USA Bass, BFL, President of East Gibson Girls' Soft- ball League, involved in East Gibson Youth Basket- ball and United Way of In- diana. He and his family at- tended Salem United Meth- odist Church in Mackey. I will nev- er understand how every year seems to go by faster than the year before. What are your holi- day plans? Our son gets to come home for Christmas, so we have several family get-togethers planned. I haven't quite figured out what I'm bringing to all of them, but I did find a recipe in my email that I think sounds like an extremely delicious to bring, especial- ly if you like coffee. Whatever your plans, I pray you and your family truly appreciate the time that you spend together, and may your Christmas be bless- ed! Merry Christmas and enjoy! INGREDIENTS • 1/2 cup butter, cubed • 3 ounces unsweetened chocolate, chopped • 2 large eggs • 1 cup sugar • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract • 2/3 cup all-purpose flour • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda FILLING: • 1 teaspoon instant coffee granules • 3 tablespoons heavy whipping cream • 1 cup confectioners' sugar • 2 tablespoons butter, softened GLAZE: • 1 cup (6 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips • 1/3 cup heavy whipping cream DIRECTIONS 1. In a microwave, melt butter and chocolate; stir un- til smooth. Cool slightly. In a small bowl, beat the eggs, sugar and vanilla; stir in chocolate mixture. Combine flour and baking soda; stir into choco- late mixture. 2. Spread into a greased 8 -in. square baking pan. Bake at 350° for 25 -30 minutes or until a tooth- pick inserted in center comes out clean (do not overbake). Cool on a wire rack. 3. For filling, dissolve coffee granules in cream. Add confectioners' sugar and butter; beat just un- til light and fluffy (do not overbeat). Spread over brownies. Refrigerate until set. 4. In a small saucepan, combine chips and cream. Cook and stir over low heat until chips are melt- ed. Cool slightly. Carefully spread over filling. Let stand for 30 minutes or until glaze is set. Cut into squares. Store in refrigerator. He was born June 7, 1957, in Oakland City, to Jerry Lee and Gayle (Nelson) Sim- mons. He was a retired U.S. Na- vy veteran.
