The Salvation Army Bell ringers are at the Dollar General and Petersburg Hardware until December 22 for you to help by giv- ing your change for a wor- thy cause in Pike County. Postcards this week at Sweets Column Winslow, IN 47598 were none in the ole mailbox. Winslow Patoka River is high and overflowing at the Riverside Park after the rain we had at the end of last week. Many stars have to look where they are walking because they may walk into a mud puddle. I just no- ticed that our walkway of stones will soon need to be dug out and elevated before there is no stone to step on. We have had so much rain in this year of 2018 that when it rains it floods the low spots. The water soaks in or runs off in a day or two. Have you thought of someone and wonder how they are doing? We do, and then we have our minds eased when we visit friends like Tim and Jea- nette, or one day Vernon stops by. They are all feeling fine and trying to take it easy through this Christmas season. Norm and I are trying to save a porch and the construction that was done many years ago was built strong to last and it's also heavy, too heavy for the two of us to carry. This might be a project for the New Year but it might happen before then. We will have to see. Winslow looks like several yards have brightened up the faces of the stars that travel on the backroads. Some yards have displays to be seen in the daytime and then some yards have their displays in lights. The old Dime Store uptown still has their dis- plays but December 15 was your last time to come inside. But, you can still stop and get out of your vehicle and window look. Speaking of the Winslow Winter Wonderland, last Saturday it was re- ally great to see 10 of our little stars come in with their parents to see Santa and Mrs. Claus. A few were really shy but soon they were telling Santa what they would like under the Christmas tree. Hot chocolate and cookies were enjoyed by all and the Winslow Beau- tification and Winslow Lions had loads of fun to see and greet everyone who came in to view the many displays and to see Santa and Mrs. Claus. A great big thanks to Santa and Mrs. Claus for being here for the children and several of us adults got to sit on Santa's lap for a picture and tell him what we would like under the tree. You are never too old to sit on Santa's lap because an 89 -year- old young lady had that pleasure last week and she was happy. All of us groups would like to say Merry Christ- mas to all our stars who turned out to view the dis- plays set up at the Win- ter Wonderland and to the groups who set up their displays to be viewed, then to Ralph for letting us use this building, the old Dime Store, in the short time we had. Next year this event will happen again in our town of Winslow and we would love to see your display, carol- ing, but most of all to enjoy this sea- son with friends. Sunday was the Spurgeon Monroe Fire and Auxiliary Christmas bring-in dinner and the famous gift exchange of pick and take. All 24 of us got real- ly full from all the delicious and tasty food and deserts, which means we have some great cooks. I tried out my cooking skills and made some celery stuffing and not the Stove Top type, and came back home with a small con- tainer full. Our time with all the Spur- geon families was great, and Donnie, we thank you for this get together and to everyone Merry Christmas and Hap- py New Year. Have you ever been to the Christ- mas Lake Village Festival of Lights? Saturday night was my first time to view and totally enjoy the many dis- plays. Almost every house had set up for everyone to say ohh and awe, and look at that, or look more sheep, and the music to the lights are amazing. There was even a lady that came out of her house and gave us a wave and Merry Christmas. You can also stop and have a cookie and hot chocolate or hot cider (not spiked) from some real nice ladies at the lake house. Also all along the route to Santa Clause we got to see many houses and yards that had some beautiful displays and I also noticed in our areas that more houses had probably set theirs up in this last week. Oh yes, I went with Laura and we picked up her friend and it was their first time there also. Soon it will be Christmas Day and our hope is that all our stars will have fun with family and friends, and if you travel the roadways we hope you have a safe and enjoyable time. Most of all Merry Christmas from Sweets Col- umn. As the lights begin to dim on this week's ramblings, keep an eye on fam- ily and friends, slow down, and don't get too stressed out. Then as I always tell you every week, smile, wave, and say Hi to everyone you see this week. Merry Christmas to all! We Make It Personal!
