This week PAWS is fea- turing a bouncy young beagle named Patty, who doesn't know a stranger, is ready for any adven- ture that is placed before her, and is an inquisitive little gal who gets along well with other dogs and cats. She would make a first class family pet, be- cause she loves to run and play. Patty is tri colored black, brown and white and has soft, floppy ears. She has to be vet checked and spayed, but can be re- served, by calling 812- 354-9894. Club is in full swing this school year. The third and fourth grade students recently received their t- shirts and Bibles from this nonprofit, non-de- nominational Christian outreach. The partici- pating students of Petersburg Elementary also made Christmas cards last Thursday, December 6, for the local nursing home residents and had a breakfast provided by the J.A.M. J.A.M. Club is currently offered to third and fourth graders at each school in Pike County. "She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger because there was no room for them in the inn" (Luke 2:7). In our hustle and bus- tle lives, do we make room for Jesus or do we push him aside because we don't have room or time for him? Jesus deserves to be first in our lives and hearts. Let us always make room for Him. We invite you to worship with us at any of our ser- vices. Ralph Newkirk, Pastor Marla Morrison, Report- er AYRSHIRE VALLEY G.B. CHURCH 1947 E. Co. Rd. 375 S. "In those days Caesar Au- gustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place while Quirin- ius was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to his own town to register. So Jo- seph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her first born, a son. GR ACE G.B. CHURCH 1007 E. Writing to Christians who were suffering for their faith, James said, "Be patient, then brothers, until the Lord's coming. See how the farm- er waits for the land to yield its valuable crop and how pa- tient he is for the autumn and spring rains. You, too, be pa- tient stand firm, because the Lord's coming is near" ( James 5:7-8). Patience is not simply a teeth-clenched," complacent endurance of a particular sit- uation. It is an attitude of ex- pectation. The farmer was able to stare at the seemingly barren ground with patience, because he was assured that there would be results of his labors. He could have pa- tience in his labors, because there would be products of his labor. It is in the spiritual realm. God can produce valuable qualities in our lives through the hurts and suffering we ex- perience. We can suffer pa- tiently, for our suffering will yield a spiritual harvest and we can suffer during this life patiently, for we know that in God's perfect time His Son will return as the greatest reward for the waiting and working believer. "He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city" (Prov- erbs 16:30). If at any time you have no church to attend, feel free to join us for services. Your pres- ence will be greatly appreciat- ed and I am sure you will re- ceive God blessings. May God bless each and everyone. Let us not forget the reason for the season—Jesus. Dr. Robert Asa, Minister and worship service and the Lord's Supper at 10 :30 a.m. My church right now is in the middle of an Advent Se- ries. For those who aren't fa- miliar with the term Advent is the time of year where we re- member the longing of Israel for a Messiah, and as we cele- brate the birth of Christ we al- so long for his return. Howev- er, as I think about Christmas coming up, I think of a book on my shelf "Finding Bethle- hem in the midst of Bedlam." Many of us can relate just by reading the title. How are we supposed to slow down and focus on the birth of Christ when we're just so busy? It seems like every year Christ- mas just gets busier and bus- ier, shopping to be done, friends and family to visit, gatherings to attend and plan for. And while we go crazy wrapping presents, gathering our children, and the pletho- ra of things we do this time of year, we miss the greatest gift. The gift of a son. Take time this advent season, to prepare your heart for a king, who came in a manger but will re- turn in glory. Blessings this Christmas season from the First Christian Church. The evening worship has been canceled this week. More about Christmas "We believe that the fear of the Shepherds is more healthy than the fear of the rockets." "We believe that Joseph's dream still outwit Herod's hate." "We believe that our journey to the manger is more important than a trip to the moon." Anyway your acceptance of the Christ Child as Lord and Savior is more neces- sary for you to make the trip to heaven than trees, tinsel and Christmas lights. Because He lives.
