C-2 Church Wednesday, December 12, 2018 The Press-Dispatch Continued in next column Continued in next column Continued from page 1 Kittens never strike a pose that isn't photoge- nic. This week PAWS is fea- turing a dramatic young kitten named Lotto, who is overly curious about ev- erything and wants to be in the middle of any ac- tion that is occurring in or out of the cat room at PAWS. He is quick to dart out the door and is fear- less if he meets up with an unsuspecting dog in the hallway. Lotto is also a very so- cial little fellow that loves to be petted and brushed. He is a short-haired tab- by with cute black and white markings, long white whiskers and is ap- proximately eight weeks old. He can be adopted, by calling 812-354-9894. Main Street Petersburg 812-354-6775 Sunday school 9:30 a.m. and worship service and the Lord's Supper at 10 :30 a.m. My church right now is in the middle of an Advent Se- ries right now. For those who aren't familiar with the term Advent is the time of year where we remember the longing of Israel for a Mes- siah, and as we celebrate the birth of Christ we also long for his return. However, as I think about Christmas com- ing up, I think of a book on my shelf "Finding Bethle- hem in the midst of Bedlam." Many of us can relate just by reading the title. How are we supposed to slow down and focus on the birth of Christ when we're just so busy? It seems like every year Christmas just gets busier and busier, shopping to be done, friends and fam- ily to visit, gatherings to at- tend and plan for. And while we go crazy wrapping pres- ents, gathering our children, and the plethora of things we do this time of year, we miss the greatest gift. The gift of a son. Take time this advent season, VINCENT CHRISTIAN CHURCH 8264 E. State Rd. 56 Morning worship and the Lord's supper at 9:30 a.m.; Bible school at 10 :30 a.m.; Evening worship at 6:30 p.m. We are studying the book of Ephesians. You are invited to take part in these services. Festal Days Thoughts This is the time of year many Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus. There are manger scenes, stars, songs, gifts and reminders that God so loved us that he gave his Son for our salvation. One, "We believe that Bethlehem's star outshines man's satellites." Two, "We believe that the Wise men's gifts have not suffered from inflation." I hope that there will be more next week. Because He lives. John Manges, Minister to prepare your heart for a king, who came in a man- ger but will return in glory. Blessings this Christmas season from the First Chris- tian Church. Little Prayers, Big Power "Keep me safe, my God, for in you I take refuge." (Psalm 16:1, NIV ). This verse stands as a re- minder that even the small- est of prayers God hears and answers. This specifically reminds me of something I heard a pastor preach on, he called them last minute or emergency prayers. An emergency prayer is where you pray "keep them safe," "protect us" or really any short pray just as a protec- tion or a cry for help. You know, some people believe that you need some long drawn-out elegant prayer in order to be heard, when all you really need is to talk to God. He does hear the long prayer and it is power- ful, but don't think that you can't just talk to him; be it a quick short "protect us" GOSPEL CENTER CHURCH Independent Baptist Church 420 E. He who is the bread of life began His ministry hun- gering. He who is the wa- ter of life ended His minis- try thirsting. He who was weary is our true rest. He who paid tribute is King of kings. He prayed, yet hears our prayers. He wept, but dries our tears. He was sold for thirty pieces of silver, yet redeemed the world. He was led as a lamb to the slaugh- ter, but is the Good Shep- herd. He died and gave His life, and by dying destroyed death for all who believe. Chad Searls, Pastor Christ, what a life to live. It is not hard or difficult, nor impossible as many per- ceive it to be. Some think to serve Jesus is to give up ev- erything enjoyable. But the truth is, all we give up is ev- erything harmful, and those things are replaced with the wonderful things God has to offer. Sadly, so many minds are broken when tricked by the enemies of God. To many people desire a hand in their salvation in- stead of just giving in to the wonderful, simple plan that God has provided. When their way fails, they may assume all is lost. but with Christ there is hope. Jesus died that we might live. He has provided every- thing that we need to com- plete this journey to heaven. He had the hard part, that we might have the simple part. Don't complicate salvation. All you have to do is ask, and He gives. God Bless You.
