Poplar Street, Petersburg About 3,000 years ago David wrote in Psalm 16:11: "…In Thy presence is fullness of joy…." He was right, for there is no great- er joy than personal fellowship with God. Yet David could not know the fullness of joy now spoken of in Paul's epistles, for he did not know Christ, who later came into the world as God, manifested in the flesh, to die for our sins. He did not know that Christ would make full satisfaction for sin and be raised from the dead to confirm our justification. Nor did David know that believers would be given Christ's resurrection life, and a po- sition, and "all spiritual blessings IN THE HEAVENLIES in Christ" (Eph.2:4-6; 1:3). When Paul wrote that God has called be- lievers "unto the fellowship of His Son", he referred to a spiritual, heavenly fellowship, far more intimate and precious than any pre- viously enjoyed by mortal man. This fellow- ship is to be enjoyed by faith, but it is faith based on fact, the fact that Christ indeed died our death and rose again from the dead that we might partake of His life and en- joy a position at God's right hand in Christ. This is why the Apostle Paul urges believ- ers of this dispensation of grace to "seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God"(Col.3:1). Peter and John both came to know much of this fellowship through Paul, who was sent to Jerusalem "by revelation" to make known to the leaders there "THAT GOSPEL WHICH I PREACH AMONG THE GEN- TILES" (See Galatians 2:2-9; II Peter 3:15 - 18). This is why John writes in I John 1:3,4: "Truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son, Jesus Christ. And these things write we unto you, THAT YOUR JOY MAY BE FULL". Well we didn't have to wait very long to see winter temps show up, but it still isn't near as bad as it will get before we see spring flowers. We often keep the grandson overnight if we are to watch him the next morning. I do be- lieve getting out in the cold early in the morn- ing could be hard on a little one. His mom and dad probably enjoy the extra time to get ready for work without having to get him ready for the short ride from their house to ours. We had a dental visit with Dr. Grief in Evansville on Monday and the appointment left my wife feeling very sore. She has a rare condition with a name about a yard long, but it gives her a lot of trouble. I guess it is a lady thing to be able to put up with lots of pain and aggravation. Her condition is at times made worse by stress and if she takes meds for it she feels worse with side effects of them. I imag- ine being married to me for 50 years would be stressful enough to bring her to tears(haha). Some of my wife's Christmas arrived Tues- day and I picked it up as I picked up John Burns to go sing and entertain at Washing- ton nursing center. Three ladies from Velpen General Baptist was with us as we played and sang many Christmas songs and carols for them. They seemed to really enjoy our tunes and were even singing along with us on many of the songs. John sang the Christmas version of Hallejah and it was beautiful. Our styles of singing are different and he does a good job and has a solo voice. Our friend Steve still needs your prayers because he doesn't feel like going along as often as he would like. He is having problems regaining his strength and his balance isn't the best it should be so remember him in your prayers. At this time of the year there are lots of par- ties and it seems as though we are invited to many because of our involvement in so ma- The Church Page is made possible by the following Firms and Businesses: Amber Manor Care Center Petersburg — 812-354-3001 Benner & Co. Stam Continued on page 2 Our nation is in a state of moral and spir- itual decay because of divorce. Surveys tell us that one half of all marriages will end in divorce and where one has been divorced the rate is 70 % . The pain, loneliness and shame are often felt more by the children than the parents. No one ever walked out of a divorce without scars. The churches have failed to address the moral issues. The pastor is often more con- cerned about being seeker sensitive than reminding the flock that divorce is wrong. It is a forgivable sin but always carries life- time baggage of pain and hurt. Twenty-five percent of clergy watch pornography on the Internet. This may explain why many pul- pits are silent on moral issues. Our marriage vows are sacred and must not be taken lightly. Marriage is a ho- ly union and lifetime contract. About two thirds of the American people belong to a church and about 40 % attend regularly. Every pastor should speak often on mor- al values and teach people the value of a Christian home. The victims of divorce should never silence the voice of the pas- tor. It is better for the pastor to attempt to save a marriage than to repair it once it falls apart. There are many reasons for the high di- vorce rate in America; the Internet trash, Hollywood movies. I plead for pastors to tell it like it is and try to save our families. As our families disintegrate, a generation and part of our civilization dies. No insti- tution planned by God is more important than the family. ny things. We didn't make the work party we signed up for, but we did make the Timeless Classics party last Thursday evening for a good supper and some great fellowship. Our candy is suppose to arrive this week and the local Lions will be asking you to help us by buying some candy. We hope to have a merchant let us set up in their front so we can try to build funds to help others who are in need. Watch the paper for news of where we might be selling and please help us help others. It would not be appropriate to air this arti- cle without mentioning the passing of a good hearted, level headed and kind compassionate former President George H W Bush. He tru- ly was a man who tried to operate this coun- try with his heart, our condolences to his lov- ing family. Our Sunday school was pretty much about making a choice for the true God or making a choice for someone else's gods. Not choos- ing the true God is the same as choosing the world's gods. The sermon lesson paralleled the church at Ephesus and the Israelites who were attempt- ing to rebuild their lives in their home coun- try. Some were disappointed and some didn't know any better even though they had been taught by the scribes. Both the church and the Israelites were doing something similar and that was going through the motions of worship but never allowing their heart to be involved. They both had a shallow fellowship with God. Please take a few moments to reflect on your life and if your heart isn't in your worship then humble yourself and ask God in. Please have a good week and be kind to someone and doing as many good deeds as you can, talk later or ttyl. RIVER OF LIFE 342 E. CR 300 N. "This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but be- fore they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. Be- cause Joseph her husband a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, be- cause he will save his peo- ple from their sins" (Mat- thew 1:18 -21). Writing to Christians who were suffering for their faith, James said, "Be patient, then brothers, until the Lord's coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop and how patient he is for the au- tumn and spring rains. You, too, be patient stand firm, because the Lord's coming is near" ( James 5:7-8). Patience is not simply a teeth-clenched," complacent endurance of a particular sit- uation. It is an attitude of ex- pectation. The farmer was able to stare at the seem- ingly barren ground with patience, because he was as- sured that there would be re- sults of his labors. He could have patience in his labors, because there would be products of his labor. It is in the spiritual realm. God can produce valuable qualities in our lives through the hurts and suffering we experience. We can suffer patiently, for our suffering will yield a spiritual har-
