December 28, 2012 ��� Milwaukee Post ��� 13 County Board approves 911 cellphone shift MPD dispatchers will handle all cell calls starting Tuesday MILWAUKEE ��� The Milwaukee County Board approved a plan that will allow Milwaukee Police Department dispatchers to begin handling all 911 cellphone calls that originate in the city According to a . release, the approval is a cooperative move that officials said will save taxpayers money . The proposal, announced in the fall by Mayor Tom Barrett and Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele, shifts the city 911 cellphone calls to MPD dispatchers effective Tuesday Previously, MPD dis. patchers handled emergency calls from landlines and Milwaukee County Sheriff���s Office dispatchers handled 911 calls from cellphones. ���This move is good for city taxpayers, who will benefit from the city savings as well as savings on the county portion of their property taxes,��� said Common Council President Willie L. From Jan. 1 through Feb. 10, nonperishable food items will be accepted at donation bins placed inside more than 50 Walmart locations throughout eastern and central Wisconsin, with all the donations benefiting Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin. Additional corporate partners are Kraft, ConAgra, Coca Cola and Campbell���s Chunky Soup; $5 food donation bags with products from each manufacturer will be available for purchase at all participating locations. ���Hunger is a growing problem in Wisconsin that affects everyone from little kids to the elderly,��� Jermichael Finley said. ���We tend to focus on the issue more around the holidays, but hunger is a yearround problem.��� Finley will make promotional appear- ances at Walmart locations in Green Bay and Milwaukee on Jan. 8. The Milwaukee appearance is at Walmart���s Timmerman Plaza, 10202 W. Silver Spring Drive. Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin is the state���s largest food bank, distributing more than 18 million pounds of food each year to 1,000 programs in 36 counties. New Year���s Eve tradition back at Mitchell Park Domes MILWAUKEE ��� Family and friends are invited to the annual New Year���s Eve party at the Mitchell Park Domes, 524 S. Layton Blvd. The Monday event runs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and is sponsored by the Friends of the Domes. The ���Let it Snow��� exhibit showcases snowboys and snowgirls sleighing, sledding and a poinsettia-filled scene. A 40-foot tree is the centerpiece. The event includes live music, kids can make their own party hats, balloon twisters, jugglers, a magician, party favors, balloon drop and more.
