It's even more bittersweet this year than in the past, as this is my final issue as Editor-inChief of Boston Common. I've loved my time here and will always treasure this magazine. Working side by side with publisher Glen Kelley to make every issue better than the last along with our talented team at 745 Boylston Street—it's been an incredible five years. I first have to thank our associate editor, Jessica Laniewski, for her enthusiasm, writing, research, and general poise under pressure; I'm not sure what I would have done without her. Our sales team—Glen, Janelle, Follow me on Facebook at Ken, and Shannon—deserves Facebook.com/boston-common credit for making editorial pages and at bostoncommon-magazine.com. possible at all, and for helping to create, with Amy Fischer and Gina Abatangelo, all of our signature events (and help stave off the party crashers). You have all become friends as much as colleagues. I couldn't be more proud to have this as my final issue. In it we celebrate the men of Boston, including our cover star, New England Patriots' linebacker Jerod Mayo. An exceptional football player, team leader, father, and husband, Mayo is an inspiration for working dads and the next generation of athletes. We also spoke with George "Monk" Foreman, the son of another famous athlete, who is carrying on the family tradition by opening a high-end boxing gym in the Seaport this fall. And we dedicate two features to men who truly helped make this city what it is today. In "Building Boston," we highlight four modern visionaries—Joe Fallon, David Hacin, Gary Hilderbrand, and John Fish—who have shaped the city through construction, interior and park design, and architecture. In "Exit Interview," we catch up with Mayor Tom Menino as his final term in office draws to a close. He spoke candidly of his 20 years leading the city, and I couldn't agree more with his love for Boston and its amazing people.
