BY JESSICA LANIEWSKI PHOTOGRAPHY BY KENJI ALT T he contents of your cocktail glass just got even more interesting with Thirst Boston's first summit, which launches November 9 at Kenmore Square's Hotel Commonwealth. Founded by Maureen Hautaniemi, Brandy Rand, Andrew Deitz, and TJ Connelly, Thirst Boston is a two-day ticketed event offering fascinating cocktail seminars that also encompass coffee and beer. Panels include mixology experts such as Jackson Cannon, John Gersten, and Josh Childs talking about the past, present, and future of cocktails in Boston, as well as Nick Corn from Citizen Public House & Oyster Bar and Alyssa DiPasquale from O Ya offering a presentation on Japanese whiskey. The weekend kicks off on Saturday night with a party called The Thing, which celebrates wellcrafted cocktails, and concludes on Veterans Day with the Stars, Stripes, and Swing Benefit Bash to aid the USO. On Sunday night, 12 bartenders armed with select spirit brands, including local favorites Privateer Rum and Bully Boy Distillers Rum, will duke it out for the best frozen drink at the tiki-themed Blender Bender. Attendees can sample cocktails such as the Dutch Oven ( PICTURED), made with Peychaud's bitters, Regans' orange bitters, soda water, and Bols's barrel-aged genever. Whether you want to know about the effect of terroir on everything from mezcal to wine, or what makes a craft spirit truly special, Thirst Boston will quench your need for libations and learning.
