Mark Wade,Deacon FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH 1400 E. Main Street Petersburg 812-354-6775 One of my favorite lines from a book, comes from the Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. Lucy asks their new friend Mr. Beaver, "Is he safe? " inquiring about this king they had heard of named Aslan. Mr. Beaver, pithy an- swer, "Oh no he's not safe, but he's good." Sometimes I won- der if we are just hoping that life in Christ will be safe. We can come to him, get salva- tion, feel good, and eventual- ly go to heaven when the time comes. However, that's rare- ly the case. Imagine the rich young rule or the other young man who came begging to fol- low Jesus, but once confront- ed by the reality that the fol- lowers of Jesus lacked a bed and shelter, or even that one would have to sell everything he had. The truth is, following Jesus wasn't safe then, and it isn't safe now. Still to this day when he calls a man, he bids him, come and die. Following Jesus means actively dying to ourselves and living for him. We have to decide that there is no safe shallow end follow- ing him. To enjoy a rich life in Christ, we have to cut the rope. Love "No cord or cable can draw so forcibly, or bind so fast, as love can do wit only a single thread." "The commandments, 'Do not commit adultery,' 'Do not murder,' 'Do not steal,' 'Do not covet' and whatever oth- er commandment there may be are summed up in this one rule, 'Love your neighbor as yourself,' Love does no harm to its neighbor, therefore love is the fulfillment of the law'" (Roman 13:9 -10). "I came not to call the righ- teous, but sinners to repen- tance" (Luke 5:32). We are all sinners. This is why Jesus died, to redeem us from all our sin, past, present and future. So really there is no reason to wait.Everyone is worthy to Jesus. Like the great, late Billy Graham said, "Christ belongs to the all peo- ple, He belongs to the whole world"—Amen. I have been blessed to wit- ness to many, how God loves them and ask them if they are willing to except Jesus Christ as their personal savior. Most are surprised, even offend- ed that a total stranger would walk up to them and start talking about Jesus. Yet some will stop right there and ac- cept the Lord's salvation. A lot of people tell me that the Lord is their Savior already, Praise God. Unfortunately, most say ' 'not today' or 'I'm not ready yet' or 'I'm not worthy, because I still drink, smoke and live in sin.' And some say they don't know how. That's when my gift is put to use. If you haven't accepted the free gift of salvation, I pray that you will soon. It is free love from God our Father. Humble yourself at the foot of the Cross, kneel on your knees, if you can.Now pray these words from your heart and believe. "Father I am a sinner. I believe your son Je- sus died for my sins. I am ask- ing You, Jesus to come into my heart and my life. I believe you are the Son of God and I re- pent of my sins to You." Now you will feel the Holy Spirit if you really meant what you just prayed. He will help you live a Godly life. Repentance means change. You will notice a change in the way you look at life. You will become a child of the most high in heaven, a member of the body of Christ forever. Find a Bible and study it and walk in the favor of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ daily. Amen. "So now I live with the con- fidence that there is nothing in the universe with the power to separate us from God's love. I'm convinced that His love will triumph over death, life's troubles, fallen angels, or dark rulers in the heavens. There is nothing in our present or fu- ture circumstances that can weaken His love. There is no power above us or beneath us—no power that could ever be found in the universe that can distance us from God's passionate love, which is lav- ished upon us through our Lord Jesus, the Anointed One" (Romans 8:38 -39 TP T). And just as he was coming up out of the wa- ter, he saw the heavens torn apart and the Spirit descend- ing like a dove on him. And a voice came from heaven, "You are my Son, the Beloved, with you I am well pleased." And the Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness. He was in the wilderness for- ty days, tempted by Satan; and he was with the wild beasts; and the angels waited on him. Now after John was arrested, Jesus came to Galilee, pro- claiming the good news of God and saying, "The time is ful- filled, and the kingdom of God has come near, repent and be- lieve in the good news" (Mark 1: 9 -15).
