A-10 Wednesday, March 3, 2021 The Press-Dispatch Pike Central falls to South Knox, 62-34 By James Capozella Senior Charger Sean Hanselman netted the only Pike Central three-pointer to get his team to the 15 -7 defi- cit that the visiting South Knox Spartans expanded quarterly for their 62-34 Tuesday night win. The Spartans utilized the three-point shot for 18 markers while the Chargers got to the free throw line for 11 of 17, five of six courtesy of Hanselman. The senior was the game's leading scorer with 16 points while the Spartans had three in double figures, including senior Garrett Holscher and junior Cody Dawson with 15 apiece. The Chargers had a rough start, trailing 13-2 before Kendric Sorguis, with an as- sist from Hanselman bagged the second Charger basket of the quarter. Hanselman hit a three-pointer to close out the first stop down 15 -7. Spartans Brennon Robinson and Tristian Wirth opened the gap further with a three-point- er and a basket to start off the second quarter. Eight points came via the charity stripe and a three point play by Tray- lor but 19 points by five Spar- tans took them into halftime up 34-15. Spartan three-pointers weighed heavy in the first quarter while the charity stripe and a solitary basket by senior Hunter Traylor sent the Chargers into halftime trailing by 19. Baskets by Ethan Gorby and Julian Gish, plus a three point play by Hanselman to end the third, didn't offset the Spartan offense that kept rolling to a 47- 22 advantage at the third stop. Connor Young hit a one- and-one in the fourth and then Hanselman picked it up for the Chargers with steals and three baskets including shots from the stripe and a three- point play. Spartan Cody Daw- son netted 10 of his team's 15 fourth quarter points in coun- tering Hanselman's late game hustle. Eight Chargers got on the scoreboard and the Spartans had seven but only one within the senior ranks. Charger se- niors accounted for 23 points while underclassmen account- ed for 43 points. South Knox went to 11-10 with recent wins over Evans- ville Reitz, Washington and Vincennes Rivet. The junior varsity got be- hind 24-8 in the first quar- ter of the preliminary contest and won the next two quarters but finished down 60 -48. Alex Clark was the Charger lead- ing scorer with 15 followed by Ethan Meadors and Chase Rid- ao with 12 with 11 respectively. Meadors got his dozen markers with the three-ball while South Knox was led by Logan Fisher with 16 points, including two three-pointers.
