There will be eight one- hour skill sessions cover- ing ball handling, pass- ing, shooting, footwork and ability. Cost is $40 for the eight skill sessions. in the second eight minutes of the game. The hosts moved to within a basket, 31-29, after 24 min- utes, and the eventual winners quickly tied the score at 31-31 to open the final stanza. The Braves outscored the Chargers 10 -6 over the next three minutes, before Hansel- man took over. Hanselman led all scorers in the game, pumping in 19 points, including a perfect 12 of 12 from the charity stripe in the fourth quarter. Kendric Sorgius, a 6'4" sophomore added another eight markers for the Char- gers, while 6' senior Ethan Gorby and 6'2" sophomore Peyton Howald each netted seven counters for Pike Cen- tral. Gish canned a three-point basket and 5'9" sophomore Braden Howald put home a pair of free tosses for two points to account for all of the winners' 46 points. Kolley led the Tecumseh scoring with 17 points, and DuPont added another 10 tal- lies for the Braves, the only double figure scorers for the visitors. Pike Central turned the bas- ketball over just eight times in the battle, while the Charger defense forced the Braves to cough up the basketball on 10 occasions. Tecumseh won the battle of the boards, outrebounding Pike Central 24-22. Nick Gallagher, a 6'3" se- nior, led all rebounders in the fray, pulling in nine caroms for the Braves. Kolley grabbed another eight rebounds for the visitors. Gish was the top rebound- er for the Chargers, hauling in six errant shot attempts. He had plenty of help, as Hansel- man and Peyton Howald each snared five missed shots for the winners. PCHS came up with six steals in the game, three by Hanselman, two by Gish, and one by Gorby. Of the 12 field goals scored by the Chargers, eight came via an assist from a team- mate, led by 5'11" senior Ad- en Brown's two, and one each by Sorgius, Gorby, Hansel- man, Gish, Braden Howald, and 6'1" junior Alex Clark. The contest was hard- fought, and the play was very physical on both ends of the playing floor, as both teams made it difficult to get open looks at the basket. Both teams connected on just 12 field goals in the fray, which showed in their field goal shooting percentages. Pike Central put home 12 of 42 attempts at the basket (28.6 percent), including five of 20 from behind the three-point line (25.0 percent). At the free throw line, the Chargers put 17 of 20 chances through the iron (85.0 percent), including Hanselman's 12 of 12 in the fi- nal quarter. Tecumseh connected on 12 of 41 tries at the hoop (29.3 percent), including one of five from beyond the three-point arc (20.0 percent). The Braves hit on 18 of their 23 trips to the charity stripe (78.3 percent). The obvious difference in the final statistics was that though both teams made 12 field goals, and the Braves made one more charity toss than the Chargers, Pike Cen- tral canned five three-point hoops to Tecumseh's one made shot from "long dis- tance", a difference of three points and a 46 -43 win. With the victory over the Braves, the Chargers fin- ished the 2020 -21 regular sea- son with a 3-17 overall record, including a 1-11 mark in the PAC, while the loss, the fifth straight for the Braves, left Te- cumseh at 7-13 on the year, in- cluding 1-10 in conference out- ings. The Chargers will take on Vincennes Lincoln Friday in the IHSA A Sectional Tourna- ment in Washington in a re- match of last Thursday's reg- ular season outing won by Lin- coln 61-49. The Chargers surround Sean Hanselman, Friday's hero after the Pike Central 46-43 Pocket Athletic Confer- ence (PAC) win over visiting Tecumseh. Hanselman scored 15 points in the fourth quarter, including the Char- gers' last 11 points in the come-from-behind victory. Gage Morton at 90 pounds won a 9 -6 decision over Raid- er Clint Wirthwein and then went to 95 pounds for a first period pin over Rebel Ca- sey Ambs. Morton lost by pin in the second period to Boonville's L. White. Mor- ton lost 10 -1 to Eli Hedges at 90 pounds. Against Boonville, Jacob Harker (85) fell in the first period, Morton (90) won by decision, Like (102) lost by late fall, Kylee Baker (110), Brody Daffron (117), Briar Thomas (125) and Aksel On- yett all fell by first period pin. Shawn Condra (150), Jayden Bolin (175) and Hayden Goins (285) fell by first period pin. Against Heritage Hills, Jacob Hark- er (85) last by pin, Morton by 10 -1 decision, Like(102), Baker (110), Daffron (117) and Briar Thomas (125) by pin. Aksel Onyett scored a sec- ond period fall over Patriot Paige Cook in the 132 pound match but that was the last of the scoring for the Chargers. Condra, Bolin and Goins lost to the Patriots by pin. Har- ker, Morton, Like, Thomas and Goins made up the 33 points on the Charger side of the 54-33 loss to South Spen- cer. Baker, Daffron, Onyett, Condra and Bolin lost by pin. The Southridge Raiders won the 75, 80, 95, 140 and 160 pound matches by for- feit and eight by pin with just Morton getting a decision at 90 pounds. GOT SPORTS? email sports @ pressdispatch.net
