Join the One WINNER is drawn at the end of each month Teague, Weisman win South Knox Invitational By Andy Heuring Pike Central's girls' cross country teams had runners win both races of the South Knox Invitational on Saturday. Quinlan Teague won the high school girls' race by five seconds over Barr Reeve's Makenna Pruett. Teague, a junior, lead the Charger team to a fourth-place finish. She ran in second and third place for most of the first lap, but on the back half, she passed Pruett. As they started the second lap, she was a stride or two ahead of Pruett. But as they went into the woods and hills, she began to pull away. When she came back around on the second lap and turned toward the last 100 -yard chute to the finish, she was about 50 feet ahead. She posted a 20 :36. Libby Stone finished fifth overall for the Chargers. She had a time of 21:05. Anna Whitehead, Jenna Meyer and Char- lotte Dudenhoeffer finished 23rd, 24th and 29th for the Chargers, in times of 22:54, 22:59 and $23:57. Morgan Anderson placed 31st in 24:08 and Laney Johnson was 35th in 24:36. Due to COVID restrictions on the num- bers of participants, the meet was re- duced to seven teams. However all sev- en teams were some of the better teams in southern Indiana. Barr-Reeve won the meet with a score of 30 points, as the top four runners were all in the top seven and the fifth runner placed 11th. Host South Knox placed second with 57 points. They had three runners in the top eight. Gretchen Carie placed third in 20 :48, Macie Cuchenour was eighth at 21:17 and Daisie Kinnett was 10th in 21:47. The other team scores were: 3) Gib- son Southern 65, 4) Pike Central 82, 5) Castle 137, 6) Evansville North 162 and 7) Evansville Memorial 195. WEISMAN WINS MIDDLE SCHOOL RACE Pike Central's Xavier Weisman was the individual champion of the South Knox Invitational Middle School Invitation- al. Her time of 11:37 beat Castle's Heidi Giannini by 10 seconds. Weisman's win paced the Chargers to second place over- all, as they lost a heart-breaker to host South Knox by one point 68 -69. Pike Central's individual finishes be- hind Weisman were Kylee Weather in ninth place in 12:37, Kaylyn Warner 13th in 12:59, Emiley Riker 19th in 13:24, Tay- lor Skinner 27th in 13:47, Eibhlin Teague 28th in 13:49 and Kylie Meyer in 42nd with a time of 14:31. Other Pike Central placers were Kylie Meyer 14:31, Jessa Ridao 14:32, Ava Miller 15:16, Calleigh Cox 15:30 and Kelsea Query 15:39. The other team standings were: 3) Evansville Memorial 73, 4) Gibson South- ern 97, 5) Castle 113, 6) Mater Dei 113 and 7) Barr-Reeve 136, On the boys' side, Pike Central fin- ished seventh with Jeremy Delobel post- ing a time of 19:47 for 34th position. Trent Zimmerman was 36th in 20 :04, Ethan Gorby 37th in 20 :12, Dallas Reutepohler 38th in 20 :15, Shane Woodhull 45th in 22:29 and Noah Russell 46th in 23:15, The high School boys' standings were: 1) Castle 30, 2) South Knox 39, 3) Evans- ville Memorial 85, 4) Gibson Southern 110, 5) Evansville North, 6) Barr-Reeve 158 and 7) Pike Central 290. MIDDLE SCHOOL BOYS PLACE 6TH Pike Central Middle School boys placed 6th as a team. Pike Central's Blain Barnett placed eighth overall in the seven-team meet, with a time of 11:14. He was followed by Jacoby Smith in 39th with a time of 12:53, Ethan Mann 44th in 14:14, Aar- on Gadberry 45th in 14:33, Joshua Smith 47th in 15:20, Gary Van Winkle 48th in 15:56, Xander Parker 16:13 and Justin Edrington in 19:34. tack," said Western. Vernon on home pitch The Charger junior varsity soccer team brought a very competitive game to their Old Petersburg High School pitch this past Tuesday night, ending in a 3-3 tie with the Mt. Vernon JV. Mount Ver- non got on top 2-1 in the first half, but the Chargers re- sponded with two more goals in the second half for the tie. Brycen Knepp, Blake Coo- per and Sam Nelson all found the back of the net for Pike Central, and Jonas Martinez, Kendric Sorgius and Ashton Evans made the assists. Cade Morgan, Caleb Lester, Ryan Gladish and Quinton Sand- ers all had a very good night on defense. Chase Ridao was a big part of that defensive ef- fort with 10 saves in goal. Ethan Gorby puts on a sprint in the last 100 yards to finish 37th in the seven-team meet with a time of 20:12. Trent Zimmerman runs up a steep hill on his way to 36th place and a time of 6:28. Charlotte Dudenhoeffer turns a corner in the South Knox Invitational on Saturday. She placed 29th in the meet for the Chargers in a time of 23:57. Morgan Anderson tops a hill and turns the corner near the one-mile mark of the South Knox Invitational. She placed 31st in the meet with a time of 24:08. Jenna Meyer near the end of her run as she was just a few yards from the finish line. She placed 24th in a time of 22:59. Quinlan Teague sprints toward the finish line to win the South Knox Invitational. Teague, a junior, ran a time of 20:36, which was five seconds faster than second place.
