Blaine Barnett (10 :39) ran first for the boys, followed by Jacoby Smith (13:04), Ethan Mann (13:35), Taylor Russell (13:49), Joshua Smith (7th, 15:46), Xander Parker (11th, 17:04) and Justus Edrington (15th, 21:09). In the girls' race, Xavery Weisman ran an 11:33 to first, followed by Kylee Weathers clocking 12:20, and Kaylynn Warner in 12:27. Kylie Meyer was fifth in 12:54, Emily Rik- er seventh (13:16), Eibhlin Teague in ninth (14:02), Jes- sa Ridao 10th (14:06), Taylor Skinner 11th (14:17), Kelsea Query 14th (14:56), Ava Mill- er 16th (15:08) and Caleigh Cox 20th (16:28). The girls scored an 18 to 43 win over Vincennes and the boys re- corded a 17 to 39 win. Kylie Meyer, Kaylyn Warner, Emiley Riker, Joshua Smith, Eibhlin Teague and Xander Parker run in a pack at Prides Creek on eighth grade recognition night. Blaine Barnett placed first with a time of 10:39, followed by Jacoby Smith (13:04) Xavery Weisman ran an 11:33 to place first. Eibhlin Teague placed ninth with a time of 14:02 against Vin- cennes. Kelsea Query placed 14th with a time of 14:56. Xander Parker placed 11th with a time of 17:04. The Hatchets would score twice in the second quar- ter on a 28 -yard run by quar- terback Trey Reed. Reed then hit Jacob Carrico for a 23-yard touchdown pass mid- way through the second quar- ter for a 22-0 lead. Pike Central came out in the second half playing bet- ter. Utterback hit freshman receiver Julian Gish for a 55 -yard touchdown to make it 22-8 just 1:35 into the third quarter. Utterback was 16 of 36 on the night, passing for 236 yards and two touchdowns. Early in the fourth quarter, the Chargers drove down the field and Jagar Dent capped off the drive with a one-yard run into the endzone to make it a 22-15 lead for the Hatchets. Charger Coach Dave Ste- phens said he thought Utter- back had a light switching on game. "He didn't seem rushed and he looked calm. The game seemed to be slowed down for him." A fter Pike Central cut the lead to one score, Washing- ton's quarterback Trey Reed took over the game. He scored on a 59 -yard run just 20 sec- onds later and then on a nine- yard run on Washington's next possession to put the game out of reach at 36 -15, with 9:24. Washington added another touchdown as Reed hit Carri- co again for a 14-yard touch- down and a 44-15 lead. Pike Central's Steven Krieg scored on a 16 -yard pass from Utterback as time expired in the game to make it 44-21. "I felt it was a good rival- ry. We kind of renewed a ri- valry," said Stephens. This was the first game of the Bat- tle for the White River Valley trophy. A trophy that will be given each year to the winner. "It was a good competi- tive game. I felt like our kids played well. It was a game both teams wanted to get the win on. I felt things started to click a lot better than they have in the last three weeks. I felt like we had some positive things we can build on. I think we took a step in the right di- rection. We competed our butts off and it wasn't enough Friday night," said Stephens. Washington improved to 2- 3 on the season.
