The Press-Dispatch Wilmus Adams alumni award winner April 6 Wilmus Adams of Wheatland is the recipient of the 2013 E. M. Downey Memorial Distinguished Alumni Award. It was presented to him at the annual Monroe City High School and Alumni Association Banquet Saturday night, April 6. This year���s recipient is the son of the late Rubert W. Adams and the late Bessie Adams. He has five siblings, Elizabeth Reel, the late Curtis Adams, Elaine Ochs and Cyrus Adams who are all also Monroe City High School Alumni, and Eleanor Pesch, who is a graduate of South Knox High School. He has lived in Knox County all of his life and attended 12 years at Monroe City schools. He graduated in 1959 in the top 20 of his class. He was student manager for the basketball team. He attended Vincennes University and then worked for Indianapolis Power and Light in Petersburg as an electrician and then foreman for 31 and a half years before retiring in 2001. Wilmus has been a faithful and active member at the Walnut Grove Church. He serves on many committees, has taught Sunday school, served as a trustee and in other leadership roles. He helps with the annual ice cream social, which Lynne Burke presents the E. M. Downey Memorial Distinguished Alumni Award to recipient Wilmus Adams. includes helping to make the ice cream, with the Blue Jean Festival Walnut Grove booth and helps the Blue Jean Center put up its tents. He assists with the annual auction, the soup buffet, back to school mall and any other task, electrical or not, that Walnut Grove does. The recipient is known throughout the community as someone who will help: carpooling to basketball games, fixing electrical problems, and donating his time. He volunteers to drive to Lynnville to get food for the Lord���s Warehouse. He is married to Betty Stafford, class of 1960 at Monroe City High School. They were married 49 years on April 5, 2013. They have two children, both are South Knox alumni. Their daughter, Beverly Adams of Wheatland, is a mathematics teacher at Rivet High School in Vincennes. She has a Master���s of Science Degree in Mathematics Education from Indiana State University. Their son, Ray Adams of Bloomington, Ill. is on an IT Architecture Team at State Farm. He has a Bachelor���s of Science Degree in Management Information Systems with a minor in Accounting from Indiana State University. He is married to Beth and they have four children, Stephanie, Ryan, Brittany and Joy. The recipient enjoys being a grandparent and traveling with his family. Having known him and family for many years and the service he has provided behind the scenes, we, the Resolutions Committee, know he is an asset to Harrison Township. Junior Leaders get ready for Pike County Fair By MaKenna Goins, Reporter The Junior Leaders met March 27 at Washington Mr. Gatti���s for its monthly meeting. The group ate pizza and shared spring break stories as they prepared for the meeting. Meeting was called to order by acting President Jaci Cannon (Vice President), roll call was completed by Claire Slomski, Secretary. Response to roll call was to state what you would like to do in Junior Leaders this year.
