A-6 Wednesday, April 10, 2013 The Press-Dispatch Middle School Academic team wins first place The Pike Central Middle School Academic Team competed at the Paoli Invitational and finished first place overall, out of a large group of 15 schools. Both the Math and English teams finished in second place and the Science team placed third. The Social Studies team placed ninth and the Interdisciplinary team (all subjects combined) finished 11th. Pike Central had the highest combined score of the evening and was awarded first place of the overall competition that evening. The team was so excited they shouted ���Eureka!��� when they were declared the champions, in honor of Archimedes��� accomplishments and the theme of this year���s competition, ���The Glory that was Greece.��� The whole team was so happy to place first overall at the end of the evening, they shouted ���Eureka��� in honor of Archimedes and the Greek theme. Farm Bureau to award $500 scholarship The Pike County Farm Bureau will award a $500 scholarship to a Pike County Farm Bureau member or their children seeking higher education, if applicants meet all qualifications. Applicants, parents or legal guardians must be a paid member of the Pike County Farm Bureau and a resident of Pike County. Applicant must be a student pursuing post high school education including two-year trades or four-year Bachelor Science degree. Preference will be given to applicants pursuing a degree related to Agriculture or Agriculture education. Ag related majors might include areas such as nutrition, ag research, ag econ, veterinary, ag marketing and other production ag courses. Applications may be picked up at the local Farm Bureau office and are due on or before May 1. Drop off or mail to the Pike County Farm Bureau office at 201 E. Main Street, Petersburg, IN 47567.
