She was born September 11, 1936, in Petersburg, to Lloyd "Buck" and Lenora "Lover" (Spray) Catt. She worked in the bank- ing industry for 30 years and retired from Gibson Coun- ty Bank. She was a lifetime member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Peters- burg. She married Jim Bob Hill in 1954. She was the per- fect example of everything you could want in a wife, mother and Mamaw. You never left her house hungry. She is survived by her husband, Jim Bob Hill, of Pe- tersburg; three daughters, Debbie Hill, Lisa (Kent) Ev- ans and Cheryl Hill, all of Pe- tersburg; a sister, Sara Sand- ers; six grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her three brothers, Robert Catt, Daniel Catt and Roland Catt (at two years of age); three sisters, Rosemary Abbott, Ruth Ann Shelton and Ro- berta Burns. WALTER THOMAS NOWARK Walter Thomas Nowark, 74, of Winslow, passed away on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at his home. He was born on Septem- ber 24, 1943, in Pittsburgh, Penn., to the late Walter Jo- seph and Evelyn Nowark. He served proudly in the United States Army 101 Air- borne. He loved working on antique tractors. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Gloria Jean Nowark, of Winslow; children, Daron (Emi- ly) Nowark, of Ft. Branch, Jeff ( Joanna) Nowark, of Winslow, Mark ( Julia) Nowark, of Winslow, Chris Nowark, of Winslow, and Thomas (Sheila) Nowark, of Vincennes; 16 grandchil- dren; seven great-grandchil- dren; sister, Nancy Toth, of Bethel Park, Penn.; and sev- eral nieces and nephews. JOYCE MAE SENDELWECK PRIDE Joyce Mae Sendelweck Pride, 97, of Otwell, passed away at 10 :10 p.m. on Thurs- day, May 31, 2018, at the Paoli Health & Living Com- munity in Paoli. She was born in Pike County on February 27, 1921, to Spencer and Rosa (Fox) Russell. She married Henry Sen- delweck on December 23, 1938, and he preceded her in death on October 27, 1996. She had a second marriage to Maurice Pride, he passed away in 2004. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Otwell. She worked in man- ufacturing her adult life, including making fighter planes used by our country in W WII. Surviving are two sons, Jerald (Linda) Sendelweck, of Georgetown, Ind., and Michael ( Vivian) Sendel- weck, of Lafayette, Colo.; four grandchildren; Sar- ah (Dan) Alexander, Ste- ven Sendelweck, Kurt (Sar- ah) Sendelweck and Bry- an (Myra) Sendelweck; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Oleva Uppencamp, of Petersburg; two broth- ers, Roger (Suzy) Russell, of Magnolia, Texas and Lin- dy Russell, of Terre Haute. Preceding her in death be- sides her husbands was one sister, Opal Rohrscheib; five brothers, Noel Russell, Har- old Russell, Loyal Russell, Edwin Russell and Delmas Russell; and one half-sister, Diane Foster. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at Otwell Unit- ed Methodist Church in Ot- well, with Rev. Jeff Pinney officiating. Visitation was from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Bech- er-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper and will be from 10 a.m. until service time at the church. OR ACE WAYNE WILLIS Orace Wayne Willis, 88, formerly of Noblesville, but most recently of Cordyon, left the land of the dying for the land of the living on May 30, 2018. He was born August 27, 1929, to Floyd and Inez Wil- lis, of Petersburg. Survivors include five children: Millicent Thomp- son, Rev. Dr. Aron (Sher- yl) Willis, Carol (Darrell) Bowden, Stephen (Sonja) Willis, and Deborah ( Wil- liam) Andrews; 13 grand- children; 27 great-grand- children; and nine great- great grandchildren. He was preceded in death, most recently by a daughter, Marsha Jean Black, and his wife, Norma Jean Decker Willis. Best known as "O.W. Wil- lis" to the people he served, his ministry career spanned more than 52 years in the Wesleyan denomination. He pastored five different churches and served as a district supervisor of over 100 churches of the Indiana South District of the Wesley- an Church for 21 years, but his ministry career passion was evangelism. Deeply impacted by his Christian conversion and life transformation, he de- livered more than 9,000 ser- mons, conducted over 1,000 revivals and preached in 40 different denominations the Good News of Christ. He was esteemed by all he ministered to for his uncom- mon kindness and grace, his winsomeness and extraordi- nary preaching gifts. A vast number of individuals trace their spiritual beginnings or recovery to his influence and preaching, as well as many who entered Christian min- istry as a life vocation. He is the author of a book Come Southwind, which chronicles some of his ministry expe- riences. Funeral services were at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2018, at Southwind Wes- leyan Church in Washing- ton, with Dr. Aron P. Willis officiating. Burial followed at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery of Petersburg. Visitation was from 5 -8 p.m. on Friday at Gill Funer- al Home in Washington and also from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Sat- urday at the church. EARLENA (HEDGES) BURKHART Earlena (Hedges) Bur- khart, 87, of Elberfeld, passed away at 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at Amber Manor in Pike Coun- ty. She was born January 4, 1931, in Pike County, the daughter of Buthyl Edgar and Roxie Geneva (McCand- less) Hedges. She graduated from Winslow High School in 1948 and married Dewey Burkhart in 1949. She re - ceived her Bachelor's De- gree from Oakland City Uni- versity, Master's Degree in Music and Counseling from Indiana University, and a second Master's Degree in Psychology and Counseling from Indiana State Universi- ty. She studied at Meningers Clinic. She taught music in the public schools at Elber- feld and was later Associ- ate Professor of Psycholo- gy at Oakland City College. She was a licensed Clinical Social Worker for 28 years, doing hospital social work and counseling at Deacon- ess Hospital in Evansville, and she was also a licensed Clinical Psychologist. A fter retirement, she worked for an adoption agency, where she placed many children, both in domestic and in- ternational adoptions. She loved to write poetry and was very accomplished as an author, having written a book of religious poetry, Inspiration from the Son. She was a long-time mem - ber of Christian Fellowship Church. She is survived by her daughters, Sherry (David) Oxley, of Tennyson, Ind., and Suzanne (Phil) Williams, of Green Castle, Ind.; son, Richard (Rosalinda) Bur- khart, of Sinajana, Guam; sisters, Judy ( Jim) White, of Petersburg, Myrna (Bertie) Jenkins, of Petersburg, and Sharon ( Wayne) Riester, of Sun City, Ariz.; grand- children, Brent Williams, Chris (Beth) Williams, Gina (Chris) Quintanilla, Madi- son Burkhart, Jason ( Vanes- sa) Burkhart, Shane Oxley, Jennie (Tony) Toopes and Holly (Gary) Stephens; and 15 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Dewey Burkhart, who passed away in 2006; parents; and sister, Donet- ta Hedges. Funeral Services were at 10 a.m., Monday, June 4, 2018, at Christian Fel- lowship Church in Evans- ville, with Pastor Cliff Her- ring officiating. Burial was in North View Cemetery in Elberfeld. DEREK LEE WEST Derek Lee West, 36, en- tered into rest May 27, 2018, in Evansville, surrounded by family and friends after a long battle. He was born March 10, 1982, in Evansville, to Da- vid West and Cindy Willis Tharp. He was an avid Car- dinals fan, and loved fishing and four-wheeler riding. He is survived by his par- ents, David (Micky) West and Cindy Tharp; sisters, April 'Sweet Mookie" (Der- ek) Bement and Cassie (Ran- dy) Ennis; nephew, Alton En- nis; niece, Harlee Rose Be- ment; granny, Connie Willis; and several aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Rusty Tharp; grandfather, Pappy Willis; and grandmother, Stella West. Services were at 1 p.m. EDT on Friday, June 1, 2018, at the Antioch Christian Church in Washington, with Pastor Keith Meece officiat- ing. Burial followed at the An- tioch Cemetery. Harris Funer- al Home was entrusted with his care. MARVIN D. SMITH Marvin D. Smith, 95, of Oakland City, entered rest on Monday, May 28, 2018, at his home in Oakland City. He was born on May 30, 1922, in Pikeville, to Paul and Naomi (Chappell) Smith. He was a retired school teacher, after 30 years of services, and served in the United States Army during W WII. Marvin was a member of Forsythe Unit- ed Methodist Church. He is survived by sons, Paul (Lisa) Smith, of Ow- ensboro, and Glenn Smith, of Punta Gorda , Fla.; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and five step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sis- ter, Virginia Smith; and wife, Thelma Smith, on Ju- ly 19, 2008. Memorial services were at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 2, 2018, at the Forsythe United Methodist Church, with Rev. Kristi Calhoun officiating. He was born in Worthing- ton, to Harry E. and Bernice (Dixon) Carson. He graduated from Peters- burg High School in 1954 and married sweetheart Donna Kay Wyant. He attended Bar- ber School in Indianapolis and was a master barber for over 20 years. He then worked as a technician for the IU Assem- bly hall for 22 years. He was also a retired Stagehand for the I.A.T.S.E Local # 618 and had served eight years with the Army Reserves. His hobbies were tinker- ing with his various tractors, mowers and vehicles. He en- joyed spending time with his pets, as well as feeding all of his deer and spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his lov- ing wife, Donna; sons, Rodney ( Jayne) Joe, William (Dana) Scott Carson; daughter, Kim- berly Dee; brother, Dr. T.J. (Debbie) Carson; grandchil- dren, Daniel, Megan, Tori, Taylor and Trevor; niece and nephew, Kit and Tex; and ma- ny other family members. He was proceeded in death by his parents. Special thanks to IU Health, Bloomington Fire Dept., Bloomington Po- lice dept. and all of the peo- ple involved with his care. In lieu of flowers, he request- ed that donations be made to the Riley Hospital for Chil- dren IU Health or the Mon- roe County Animal Shelter. The love and support of family and friends has been greatly ap- preciated. LESTER PHILLIPS Lester Phillips, 82, of Pe- tersburg, passed away June 2, 2018. He was born in Pike Co. to Dello and Odean Phillips on April 20, 1935. He is survived by his brother, Jim Phillips. He was preceded in death by his son, Lester Weedman; and his parents.
