Petersburg Elementary Pike Central Junior Duck Stamp Contest On Saturday May 12, Pike Central students were recog- nized for their participation in the Junior Duck Stamp con- test at Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge near Seymour, IN. The Duck Stamp program started in the 30s as a way to conserve habitat for waterfowl. Ninety-eight percent of the funds goes directly to wetland conservation. All waterfowl hunters are required to buy a duck stamp as part of their hunting licenses. The duck stamp is an actual stamp placed on the license. Every year the contest is open nationwide for wildlife artists to submit a design to be chosen for the stamp. As part of the contest, the Junior Duck stamp con- test started for youth k-twelfth grade. At Pike Central, the seventh grade art classes studied habitat and conservation then chose a native waterfowl species to draw or paint for possible submission into the contest.
