The Press-Dispatch Church Wednesday, May 2, 2018 C- 3 RAMBLINGS Continued from page 1 Continued in next column Continued from page 2 Continued on page 11 NATIONAL DAY OF Prayer May 3 at Noon at the Pike County Courthouse National Anthem - Sung by the Pike Central Swing Choir Pledge to the Flag - Chuck Froehle Greeting - Rev. Leon D. Pomeroy Opening Prayer - Pastor Jim Gidcumb Scripture - R.C. Klipsch, Mayor of Petersburg "Now I urge you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree in what you say, that there be no divisions among you, and that you be united with the same under- standing and the same conviction." (1 Corinthians 1:10, KJV) Lord's Prayer - Pastor Charles Baxter Prayer of Repentance - Pastor Tammy Powers Prayer in Unison for the Nation - Father Frank Renner O God, You are the one who gave us this promise in 2 Chronicles 7:14; "If my people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land." Convict the church in America to wake up spiritually, agree clearly, unite visibly and pray extraordinarily for the next great spiritual awakening in America to occur in our generation. Amen. If you ever get the feeling you are going solo without God's help you should kneel down and ask for forgiveness. Do what you do because it is the right thing for you to be doing it and no other reason. Don't hunt for the pat on the back, but enjoy them if they come and give God the credit for your abilities. Another thought brought out was our flesh- ly mind wants more and more with no real satis- faction. The Bible tells us to learn to be content with what we have at the time and stop complaining. It doesn't say that we have to be satisfied as we can work for more, but let God's Spirit lead you to more. Scripture says the love of money is the true evil, but if you lust after anything your neighbor has it can become an evil in your life. If you like what your neighbor has then work to have something like it and be happy that they have what they have. Don't forget to be a bless- ing for someone this week and be ready and willing to accept all of life's blessings coming your way. This Sunday's sermon ti- tle is: "Turn Around Prayer." Scripture reading: Job 42:7-10. Theme statement: Joy overflows in generosity to other people. The prayer of Job was prayed during a time of severe affliction. A turn around prayer is mirac- ulous, blood-brought, spirit- wrought, enjoying God ex- perience. There are three moti- vations for a turn-around prayer. 1. For a response to true repentance. 2. For true reconciliation with friends. 3. For true restoration of service to God. John says when Jesus comes, He sheds light in our lives and the darkness flees. Light shows things as they really are: dirty, messy rooms, clutter or whatever is revealed whn the light comes on. So it is in our spiritual lives. When Christ shines His light in our lives, every- thing gets revealed, includ- ing our sin. We cannot hide it anymore. We cannot keep going in the darkness. We have to admit what is there so Christ can clean it. Confession is acknowledg- ing what is there, even if it isn't pretty. The good news is that when, enabled by God's grace, we confess the things revealed by the Light, God forgives us and then cleanses us. He can clean up a messy room so we don't have to stumble around in the dark any longer. "In him was life, and that life was the light of all man- kind. The light shines in the darkness, and the drkness has not overcome it" ( John 1:4-5). Ladies Banquet will be on Saturday, May 19, at 5 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall.
