A-12 Local Wednesday, May 2, 2018 The Press-Dispatch PAID FOR BY COMMITTEE TO ELECT JENKINS FOR SHERIFF. LANA MANNING TREASURER. Jenkins BRAD PIKE COUNTY 2018 FOR SHERIFF "A Career's Worth of EXPERIENCE and New Ideas" Hello, my name is Brad Jenkins. I am a Democrat candidate for Sheriff of Pike County. First, let me tell you a little bit about myself. I was born and raised in Pike County. I am the son of Bert and Myrna (Hedges) Jenkins. I have been married to Jackie (Lynch) Jenkins for 39 years and we have two children. Our daughter, Megan Willis, is married to Jason Willis and they have four children. Our son, Matthew Jenkins, is married to Morgan (Williams) Jenkins, they have two children and he is currently in the United States Air Force. I have worked at the Pike County Sheriff's Department for the last twenty-four years. I was a corporal with the Petersburg Police Department for four years before going to the Sheriff's Department and I was a reserve deputy for three years prior to working for the Petersburg Police Department. I am a graduate of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy and over the past twenty-four years, I have attended numerous law enforcement training classes to keep me up-to-date on the ever-changing regulations, laws and problems in law enforcement. Over the past few weeks, I have been walking the roads of Pike County, knocking on doors, meeting with people, and sharing my ideas, and listening to your input and ideas as well. If for some reason I have not been able to sit down with you, and talk and you would like to hear my ideas for Pike County or you have questions or concerns that you would like to talk with me about, please don't hesitate to contact me at 812-766-2095. Over the last twenty-four years, I have seen a lot of changes in law enforcement within the county — some good and some bad. I have been involved in many drug-related arrests and investigations, and I do believe it is one of the biggest problems facing our county, and I assure you it will be one of my top priorities. Right now, we have the D.A.R.E. program at the fifth-grade level and this is a very good program, but I would also like to see more involvement with the other grades in Pike County as well. I would like to continue to build the relationships between police officers and the youth of Pike County, as well as the adults. I believe this will help build a stronger community and a better future. I would like to build the reserve deputies back to the numbers they were before. I believe they are a great asset to the county. Reserve deputies are people who volunteer their time to assist the full-time deputies in their duties. The reserve deputies would need to have a set amount of training, which would include a 40-hour state required basic class, plus they will be required to ride along with a deputy for a set amount of time. I believe once we get the reserves trained that this will save the taxpayers of Pike County money. While speaking to some of the citizens of Pike County, the concern was brought up to me that our deputies and our drug dog should be patrolling Pike County instead of I-69. I agree with this concern and if elected sheriff, I will address this. With everyone working as a team and focusing on the county and its safety, we can make positive changes. I will also see that all of the jail staff-not just the deputies-including dispatchers and jailers, receive above and beyond their required training. While out talking to people in the county, I also heard a rumor and would like to address it. There are those who believe that if I get elected sheriff that some of those working at the sheriff's department will lose their job. This rumor is false. No one at the jail will lose their job. If elected sheriff, I would have an open-door policy so that the residents of Pike County can speak with me regarding any concerns they may have. I believe that being a good sheriff is more than carrying a badge, it is having the attitude of helping serve and giving back to the community. But most important- ly, I believe the sheriff is hired by the people of the county to serve and protect. I am hard working, competent and fair with a common-sense approach. I ask that on May 8 you vote for the experience you can count on and vote Brad Jenkins, Democrat candidate for sheriff. It would be my honor to work for you as the next sheriff of Pike County. I would like to take this time to thank everyone that has helped me in this campaign and to all the people that talked with me while I was walking the county. I have met a lot of great Pike County people and I appreciate the time you took to talk with me. For those I did not get to meet, I hope that this letter will help you decide when it's time to vote. If you do have any ques- tions or comments or would like a ride to the polls on Election Day, please feel free to call me at 812-766-2095. Together we can make Pike County not only safe but a great place to live. Thank you for your support. VOTE JENKINS
