The Press-Dispatch Sports Wednesday, Februar y 28, 2018 B- 5 weight that Coach (Billy) Hewig was able to recruit for us," McCain said. "Creek has only been wrestling for one week. He is very new and inexperienced, but he was able to go out there, kept moving and caught Boon- ville's heavyweight at just the right time and was able to pin him and give us a huge win. It's great moments like this that makes this sport so much fun." McCain also credited Chargers assistant coach Luke Cox for his contribu- tion to the team's success. "He really studied the line-up and made some sug- gestions, so we moved some guys around and it paid off big," McCain said. "He is doing a fantastic job when it comes to getting everybody matches and giving us the best line-up possible." On Monday, Feb. 19, the Chargers won two of three matches in a four-team meet hosted by Forest Park, de- feating the host Rangers 57-30 and Tecumseh 54-30 while dropping a 60 -36 loss to Tell City. "We had a pretty good meet overall," McCain said. "Tell City is always tough. They have a fantastic youth program and it really shows with the level of their kids wrestle at. It's hard to close that gap in such a short sea- son, but we always seem to wrestle these guys better at PAC, so I am looking for- ward to that." Pike Central will partic- ipate in the Titan Duals at Gibson Southern on Sat- urday, March 3, before re- turning home to host North Knox, Tecumseh and Wood Memorial on Tuesday, March 6. The Chargers will close out the season in the PAC Championships on Sat- urday, March 10, at Gibson Southern. "I've said it a million times – he's a huge reason why I am who I am today, because of the motivation that he brought to me. He pushed me. Some- times you're not always fond of him because he pushes you hard, but it's because he cares about you. And I prom- ise you, there's nobody that cares more about you than he does." Lunsford – the 24-year-old son of Javona Miller, of Pe- tersburg, and Scott Lunsford, of Washington – said that he himself was keeping his fo- cus on preparing for the next Olympia competition. "What keeps me motivat- ed and keeps me focused, that I know I want to do this, is I'm a very faith-driven person, and I believe this is what God wants for my life, and not just what I want for myself. So what I'm doing is what God also wants for my life. That's what keeps me motivated and helps me know that this is what's right for my life." "Yes, I have selfish rea- sons – I want to win titles, I want everyone to know the name Derek Lunsford – but, at the end of the day, this life is so short, and if we're not living for God, I think that we're missing something."
