C-2 Church Wednesday, Februar y 14, 2018 The Press-Dispatch Continued in next column There are times when the greatest gift is sim- ply an outstretched paw, a listening ear, and a heart that understands. I can offer you that gift. This week PAWS is featuring a perky young pup named Mojo, who was born at PAWS on New Years Day. He is a very personable little guy who is inquisitive, loves to cuddle, is also first in line at the food bowel and likes push- ing his brothers out of the way so he can fill his belly first. He has soft, black medium length fur, with white tipped paws and a white tip on his tail. Mojos mom, Deliah, is a small black lab who is very ready to see that PAWS WEEK PAWS WEEK Pet of the MOJO Continued from page 1 Continued on page 3 her children find good homes. Mojos can be ad- opted, by calling 812-354- 9894 and would make a great Valentine for your special someone. Baptist Catholic When leaning to our own un- derstanding during difficult times is to say we know what is best for us, and God does not. This questions His di- vine sovereignty. I know it is hard to understand some- times the difficult trails we go through. The difficult times we "GO THROUGH" they will come to a end. But the Lord Jesus knows the troubles you have and if we will Trust Him with all of our heart He will see us "THROUGH" our troubles. See our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/Ayrshi- reValleyGB. Frank A. Coleman, Pastor GLEZEN G.B. CHURCH Corner of Center and Sycamore Sunday school 9:30 a.m.; morning worship 10 :30 a.m. and Wednesday Bible study at 6:30 p.m. Remember those on our prayer list, the shut-ins and our lost loved ones. There is something in our attempts to be the Lord's faithful servants that draws Him closer to us. It may be that as we walk further in- to His Kingdom, He is just closer. There is fullness of life in His presence. There with Him is surprisingly in- timate care and delightful provision. When the master says to the good and faithful servants, "Come and share your master's happiness," He is inviting them, and us, right into the joy of the Lord. That joy is not simply a feel- ing—it's a fullness, a com- pleteness, a satisfaction beyond what we can know without God. "You have been faith- ful with a few things; I will put you in charge of ma- ny things. Come and share your Master's happiness" (Matthew 25:21,23). Ken Reeder, Pastor Karri Brock, Reporter MT. PISGAH G.B. CHURCH (Augusta) Broadway Street Winslow Pastor 812-582-0756 Sunday morning worship at 10 :15 a.m., children's Sun- day school during morning service; Celebrate Recov- ery Sunday at 5 p.m. at the Gathering Place in Winslow; Wednesday night prayer meeting and Bible study at 6:30 p.m. Come worship the King. "If you should suffer for righteousness sake, you are blessed" (I Peter3:14). All the masterpieces con- tain both light and shadow. By them, the artist certains features of his subject, and they provide contrast and harmony to reveal beauty or character. A happy life is not one filled only with sun- shine, but one that uses both light and shadow to produce beauty. Suffering or perse- cution can become a bless- ing, because they can form a dark backdrop for the ra- diance of the Christian life. The greatest musicians, as a rule, are those who know how to bring a song of sad- ness. Fanny Crosby, her spir- it aglow with faith in Christ, saw more with her sightless eyes than most of us do with normal vision. She gave us some of the great gospel songs that cheer our hearts and lives. If at any time you have no church to attend, feel free to join us for services. I'm sure you will leave feeling blessed. Jerry "Tuffy" Blackwell, Pastor Sharon Kendall, Reporter STS PETER & PAUL CATHOLIC CHURCH 711 Walnut Street Petersburg 812-354-6942 Mass Schedule: Wednes- day, Feb. 14, Ash Wednesday at 7 p.m. During mass, our priest will make the sign of the cross with ashes on our foreheads saying "Remem- ber that you art dust and un- to dust you shall return" or "Repent and believe in the Gospel;" Saturday, Feb. 17 at 5:30 p.m.; Sunday, Feb. 18, First Sunday of Lent at 11 a.m.; 9:30 a.m. CCD and adult Bible classes in the Rectory basement. The Rosary is prayed be- fore the Saturday evening mass and before the Sun- day morning mass. Individ- ual confessions 30 minutes before weekend Masses at 5 p.m. and 10 :30 a.m. Lent begins on February 14 (Ash Wednesday) and ends just before the evening mass of the Lord's Supper on March 29 (Holy Thurs- day). Catholics 18 -59 years of age are obliged to fast on Ash Wednesday. Catholics 14 years of age and up are obliged to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and Fri- days of Lent. The Alleluia and the Glo- ria are not sung or said dur- ing Lent. Lent is a time when all the faithful prepare for the passion, death and res- urrection of our Lord Jesus Christ at Easter through added prayer and listening to the Word of God, giving it a penitential character. To physically deny oneself by fasting and abstaining serves as a tangible remind- er of the suffering endured by Christ at His Passion. Both fasting and absti- nence can trace their us- age back to the Old Testa- ment times, and the concept of intentionally limiting the amount of types of food was not foreign to the first Chris- tians. To them, it was not on- ly a sign of one's sorrow and penance before God, but it was a pious work that helped unite them more closely to the Passion of Jesus. Have a Blessed Lent ev- eryone. God Bless America. Frank Renner, Pastor Sue Willis, Reporter Christian FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH 1400 E. Power of Love "Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's live for one's friends." ( John 15:13, K JV ). Love is one of the most powerful ways that we can tell people about Christ, by showing them the love he gave to us through our ac- tions towards others. As Christians we know that God gave us the greatest gift of love by giving his only son to die for our sins. In saying that, understandably show- ing love to others can some- times be very hard, especial- ly in certain situations that happen in our lives. Even in the hardest of times as Christians we should strive to show love to all in every- thing we do. For God loves everyone no matter how un- lovable they are or think they are. Jesus is the best Valentine gift ever received from our father in heaven. Happy Valentine's Day! God bless you and keep you. We welcome you to all ser- vices. Come and worship Je- sus with us. "Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceed- ingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you" (Mat- thew 5:11-12). Notice that it talks about being falsely persecuted for His sake and then it says "Rejoice." Reminds me of Paul and Silas in Acts 16:16 - 34.
