PC-1 STOP Since I was a young boy, God called me! Often, I wondered why certain things would happen. I now see how the stopwatch precision of God has ordered my life. Two men in my life changed my life drastically. Dean Church was my Sunday School teacher and although he taught me many things, the testimony he gave one night at church forever and sincerely changed my life. I saw what God did in his life and simply prayed for God to do the same in mine. Eighteen years after Dean's testimony, I told his story at my wedding and gave him a watch to thank him for taking the time. That watch has Proverbs 27:17 engraved on the back, which states, "As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another." Thank you, Dean, for taking the time! The other man and family that have changed my life are Mike and Peggy Voyles. I worked for Mike at the grocery store, and learned dedication and hard work from him. As I attempted to keep up with Mike and learn everything he knew, I quickly realized that Mike was a very passionate man. As time went on, Mike took an interest in me. Johnny and I would attend Kiwanis meetings with Mike and learned the key to greatness is responsibility and how important it was to give back. Throughout it all, I learned a lot from the Voyles family. I could not come close to telling you all the ways Mike has shaped and formed my life, but overall, everything that I learned from Mike stemmed from one single decision he made. Mike did something he didn't have to do! The mission statement from Kiwanis states it's a group of volunteers dedicated to improving the world, one child and one community at a time. Congratulations Mike, you have fulfilled that obligation and thank you! If we wrote a sentence about these two men, it would read as follows: Thank you for taking the time, for doing something you didn't have to do! I know my obligation to continue the legacy Mike and Dean gave me. It's why I love this community so much and the reason I feel such a need to give back for all we do in this life. To God be the Glory!
