NEWS BRIEFS Pike County Park and Recreation Board announces meeting dates The Pike County Park and Recreation Board has an- nounced their 2018 meting dates. They will meet at 7 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month, except for the July meeting, which will be on July 11. The meetings are open to the public and will be in the park office at 1045 E. CR 400 N., Petersburg. Below are the meetings dates: January 3, February 7, March 7, April 4, May 2, June 6, July 11, August 1, September 5, October 3, November 7 and December 5. Trying out a new Christmas present Ethan Hill didn't let temperatures in the low 20s keep him from riding his new Christmas present. Hill was out and about on his new Huffy paper boy bike early Tuesday morning, despite the tempera- tures being in the low 20s. Two arrested for drunken driving By Andy Heuring Two people were arrest- ed for drunken driving af- ter one was stopped for run- ning a stop sign at 2:33 a.m. and another was stopped for not having taillights. Toby Nelson, 43, of 1614 E. SR 356, Winslow, was ar- rested after Indiana State Trooper Hunter Manning stopped him for running a stop sign in Winslow. Ac- cording to the Indiana State Police, Nelson failed field so- briety tests and was taken to the Pike County Jail, where he tested 0.13 percent for blood alcohol content. The legal limit is 0.08 percent in Indiana. He was preliminarily charged with operating a ve- hicle while intoxicated. A Petersburg mas was arrested at about 3:30 a.m. when police stopped him for driving with no taillights. Brandon Taylor, 39, of Pe- tersburg, was driving a 2013 Ford Fusion on Winslow-Ca- to Road. State Trooper C. J. Boeckman and Pike Coun- ty Deputy Jason McKinney were stopped, talking to each other and noticed Tay- lor didn't have any taillights. Trooper Boeckman said when he stopped Taylor and talked with him, he no- ticed the odor of marijuana. He added, a search of Tay- lor's vehicle found a small amount of marijuana and meth. Taylor failed field so- briety tests and was taken to the Pike County Jail, where he tested 0.125 percent for blood alcohol content. Taylor was preliminarily charged with operating a ve- hicle while intoxicated; pos- session of meth, less than five grams, a Level 6 felony; possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.
