The win was the first of the season for the Char- gers following back-to- back road losses at North- east Dubois and Princeton, as well as the first for first- year head coach Hunter El- liott. "It's a relief," said Elliott. "I think they felt a little bit of pressure. I felt a little bit of pressure, of course. We came out the first two games, I didn't think we played too bad." "But coming in here, the first night at home and the first conference game, we really wanted to come out and be ready to go, and I think we were," Elliott add- ed. "Coming out with a vic- tory feels pretty good." Then, after South- ridge freshman guard By Ed Cahill Press-Dispatch Sports Editor sports@pressdispatch.net The Pike Central High School wrestling team won five of eight matches to place fourth in the Pocket Athletic Con- ference Duals held at Tell City on Friday, Dec. 8, and Sat- urday, Dec. 9. On Friday, the Chargers defeated South Spencer 58 -12, defeated Heritage Hills 37-36, lost to Gibson Southern 53- 43, and defeated Tell City 51-27. On Saturday, Pike Central defeated Tecumseh 62-18, de- feated Forest Park 51-27, lost to North Posey 48 -21, and lost to Southridge 46 -33. "We wrestled hard and took the fight to our opponents, which is one of our goals every week," said Chargers head coach Billy Hewig, whose team outscored its opponents by a total of 346 -251. "We have things to work on, for sure, but it wasn't lack of effort that slowed us down." Individually, senior Christian Alvey won all eight of his bouts while seniors Silas Goff and Dylan Jones both went 7-1. Alvey, wrestling at 195 pounds, had three wins by pin, one win by a 13-0 major decision, one win by a 7-0 decision, one win by a 6 -1 decision, and two wins by forfeits. Goff, wrestling at 285 pounds, had four wins by pins, one win by a 7-3 decision and two wins by forfeits. Goff's on- ly loss was by a 4-2 decision to Heritage Hills junior Aid- ian Rea. Jones, wrestling at 126 pounds, had a team-high five wins by pins and two wins by forfeits. Jones' only loss was by a 10 -5 decision to Heritage Hills senior Josh Bell. "Christian Alvey went undefeated, stringing some im- pressive wins together," Hewig said. "Silas Goff and Dylan Jones wrestled really well, only losing one each." Senior Jacob Sisk went 6 -2 at 220 pounds with two wins by pins, one win by a 3-1 decision and two wins by forfeits. By Ed Cahill Press-Dispatch Sports Editor sports@pressdispatch.net Senior forward Erika Hen- drixson scored 17 of her game-high 19 points in the second half as the Pike Cen- tral High School girls' bas- ketball team rallied from a 13-12 halftime deficit to defeat visiting Evansville Bosse 46 -31 on Saturday, Dec. 9. Hendrickson had scored just two points before be- ing forced to the bench for the rest of the first half af- ter picking up her second personal foul with 3:51 left in the opening quarter and Evansville Bosse holding a 7-4 lead. Returning to the game at the start of the third quar- ter, Hendrixson hit seven of 13 field goal attempts and three of four tries from the free throw line while grab- bing seven rebounds as the Lady Chargers improved to 7-3 with their sixth straight victory. Pike Central, which made just five of 18 field goal at- Senior Brittany Young and junior Natalie Bohnert won two individual events each to lead the Pike Central High School girls' swimming team to a first-place finish in a three-team meet hosted by the Lady Chargers on Thurs- day, Dec. 7. Young placed first in the 50 -yard freestyle with a time of 28.60 seconds. She also placed first in the 100 -yard butterfly with a personal re- cord time of 1:15.17, best- ing her previous PR time of 1:15.99. Bohnert placed first in the 200 -yard individual medley with a season-best time of 2:19.59. She also placed first in the 100 -yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.77. Also placing first in individ- ual events for the Lady Char- gers were senior Quin Bailey in the 200 -yard freestyle with a time of 2:27.49; senior Cass Conder in the 100 -yard breast- stroke with a time of 1:26.34; and junior Halle Stephens in diving with a six-dive score of 176.50 points. In addition, Bailey, Bohnert, Conder and Young teamed up to place first in the 200 -yard medley relay with a time of 2:11.81, and in the 400 -yard freestyle relay with a time of 4:21.57. Placing second in indi- vidual events for the Lady Chargers were Bailey in the 100 -yard freestyle with a time of 1:04.40 ; freshman Char- lotte Dudenhoeffer in the 200 -yard freestyle with a sea- son-best time of 2:38.56 and in the 500 -yard freestyle with a season-best time of 7:00.69; The Pike Central High School boys' swim team placed first in all 12 events during a three-team meet hosted by the Chargers on Thursday, Dec. 7. Seniors Jacob Bohnert, Ty Cassitty and Lukas Hill and sophomore Jersey Mills won two individual events each while senior Gavin Diggs finished first in one individual event. Bohnert placed first in the 50 -yard freestyle with a time of 23.64 seconds and in the 100 -yard backstroke with a season-best time of 57.97 seconds. Cassitty placed first in diving with a season-best six-dive score of 180.05 points and in the 100 -yard freestyle with a time of 56.13 seconds. Lukas Hill placed first in the 200 -yard individual medley with a season-best time of 2:13.21 and in the 100 -yard breaststroke with a season-best time of 1:08.10. Mills placed first in the 200 -yard freestyle with a personal record time of 2:06.34, besting his pre- vious PR time of 2:10.55. He was also first in the 500 -yard freestyle with a time of 5:53.81. Diggs placed first in the 100 -yard butterfly with a season-best time of 1:07.62.
