Pike Central High School's marching band – the Charger Brigade – earned a bronze rating for its performance at the ISS - MA Regional Competition on Saturday, Oct. 14 at Cen- ter Grove High School. "The formulas in which the final score is deter- mined has been changed by the ISSMA officials over the last few years," band di- rector Chris Ashworth said. "This year, the scores across the board were much lower than in years past." "The students performed really well," Ashworth add- ed. "We are disappointed not to be advancing, but the amount of growth that the program has had this year is evident. With the band hav- ing close to 50 percent new members, the students far exceeded my expectations. They have really come to- gether as a team and per- formed well." Ashworth noted that while the competitive sea- son is over for the Charger Brigade, he and the stu- dents are looking forward to marching in the Peters- burg and Winslow Christ- mas parades in December, as well as a trip to Walt Dis- ney World in March. "The band wants to thank the community for their con- tinued support of the musi- cal arts," Ashworth said.
