Just sometimes, it seems to me, they're looking for too per- fect of a pitch whenever they're behind in the count, and they're just not always going to get that." In the second game, Rice started and gave up five runs in the first inning – four of which were earned – and two more in the second in- ning – on a two-run homer by Curtis – as the Bulldogs jumped out to a 7-0 lead. A fter Pike Central scored one run in the bottom of the second inning, Evansville Bosse touched up Britton for two runs in the third to extend its lead to 9 -1. However, Britton would hold the Bulldogs scoreless in the fourth and fifth in- nings before being relieved by Rickard, who held Evans- ville Bosse to just two hits over the final two frames. "I like for the kids, es- pecially my sophomores, to try to work out of stuff," McDonald said. "In the sec- ond game, we got down 9 -1 because I let some of these sophomores try to work out of stuff. That's how they grow. It's not always about getting a win. Sometimes it's about them battling." White went 2-for-3 with one walk and scored three runs in the nightcap.
