"Have A Blessed Thanksgiving" 1 More T Go! 1 More To Go! Burns Bulldogs Our 28th Year • Issue No. 47 • November 23, 2011 shelbyinfo.com 011 shelbyinfo.com County SCHOOLS Crest Chargers Cleveland County Shelby Lions "Home Of Champions" "Home Of Champions" Food Network Is Coming To Shelby Larry Sprinkle Announced As Grand Marshal For Kings Mountain's Christmas Parade The City of Kings Mountain will have Larry Sprinkle as the Grand Marshal for their annual Christmas Parade, Saturday, December 3 at 3:00PM. Familiar to many from his days at WAYS/WROQ, Sprinkle spent years perfecting his impressions of celebrities and as spokesper- son for many national clients. "Larry and I go back to when we both worked together at NBC. He's is incredibly talented and it's great that he'll be able to join us as Grand Marshal for the parade," said Ellis Noell, Director of Special Events for the City. The parade will be also be videotaped and cablecast on Channel 19, Cleveland Community College's public access channel. Applications to enter the parade are available on-line at www.cit- yofkm.com or can be picked up at City Hall. Tucked away in a corner, across the street from the Cleveland Regional Medical Center, is an 700 square foot bakery. Located at 807-1 Schenck Street, the tiny bakery's two owners, Jerry and Mary Painter is the reason that the popular Food Network is coming to Shelby. The bakery's name is "Do You Love It - Sweet & Sa- vory Patisserie". A sign above the working area explains the reason for the bakery. The sign says "All Because Two People Fell In Love". The for rent sign came down at the loca- tion and they opened July 30th, 2010, just 15 months ago. The couple had worked together at a Charlotte Country Club, but wanted to do something in their own environment and do what they loved, baking and decorating. Be- lieve it or not, they also love working together and got married on April 3, 2010. Once you get to know them, it like a mutual admiration society. Each totally admires the other and the talents they have. Mary will tell you that "Jerry loves to cook and bake and I love to bake and decorate." Mary got the idea to submit an application to the Food Network for a competition. Three months later they received a request from the network for a video. In July of this year they sub- mitted a three minute tape, displaying their tal- ents, training and awards. It emphasized in par- ticular Jerry's talents. Mary said she acted silly. They received a request from the Food Network to come to Los Angeles and left October 14, where they spent fi ve days in competition. The results cannot be announced, but the Food Network is fl ying into Shelby to fi lm Jerry and Mary at their bakery, and should be here before the end of November. When in Los Angeles fi lming, they wore pink chef coats with "Do You Love It" embroidered on them. The show should air on the network sometime in March or April. Hopefully, the announcement of the results will come out in February, if not before. "Do You Love It?" You bet. Two people who fell in love and began their dream. Now, we'll have to see if another part of their dream is coming true. Welcome, Food Network to Shelby and its special little bakery. Back in Shelby after their competition in Los Angeles, Jerry and Mary Painter await their competition results from the Food Network. re g r. m. f heir . –M. A. Andrews THINK GREEN!
