FISHING REPORT FISHING REPOR Kosa The Kosa retirees fished Lake Norman last week and according to John Black, "yea it rained, but it could rain every week if I could catch fish like that". John Black and Roger McNeilly got the win with 10.07. James Osborne and Ray Hembree were second with 7.11. They also had big bass of the day with a 3.5 largemouth. Third place with 6.3 was Tommy Wess and James Haynes. This week the retirees will be on Lake Wylie, without John Back who will be home taking care of wife, Linda. She had sur- gery and is still recovering. Get well soon Linda. Moss Fifteen boats made the trip to Moss Lake last Thursday for the weekly bass tourna- ment. Brian and Cody Hoyle got the win with 4.5. There was a tie for second between Ronnie Humphries and Tommy Chapman, both fished solo and had 4.0. Arnold Ledford and Steve Gordon took fourth with 3.4. Big bass of the night was a 1.21 largemouth and it was also a tie. Ronnie Humphries and the team of Ledford and Gordon both had a fish weighing the same. CCBC The Cleveland County Bass Club fished Lake Norman this past Saturday for their September event. Larry Melton picked up the win with 9.0. Roger Beaver had 7.60 fol- lowed by John Presnell with 7.42. Jimmy Melton settled in fourth with 7.14 and fifth went to Tom Mayhew with 6.90. All of the top fie had their limit of 5 bass. Larry Melton had big bass of the day with a 2.72 largemouth. The CCBC will fish two events in October, Lakes Wylie and Greenwood. Dates have not yet been decided. Sportsman's Corner Sportsman's Corner By Gary Miller By Gary Miller Aiming Outdoorsmen Aiming Outdoorsmen Toward Christ oward Christ This hunting season has started off a little odd. I've not actually been in the woods and yet 2 of the 3 states that sur- round my home have already opened their season. I wonder if I'm losing my edge. Well, not really. I am excited about going, but there are several factors that have postponed my start. First of all, I prefer a little chill in the air before I start slinging arrows. A good barometer for me is whether or not I can see my breath. I love those cool temperatures. Another reason I have not hunted yet is simply tim- ing. I have either been traveling or getting ready to travel and have needed any extra time for other things. And then lastly, I'm just saving myself. Most years, I fi nd myself hunting very CAMOUFLAGE FISHING The approach an autumn Aaron Reynolds shot his fi rst deer using a bow. He bagged this nine pointer with one arrow. I have seen anglers fishing in their bright shirts and white hats under the autumn sun and more often than not they are not having very good luck. In most cases, their poor luck is because of what they are wearing. Trout can see the movement of an angler and hide before the angler even realizes he is close to a fish. The wise angler will take a tip from his hunting buddies and wear at least a camouflage hat and vest. In fact, it's a good idea to wear camouflage clothing when fishing year round. In the thin water of autumn, it is important to not only wear camouflage but also creep into position and cast while kneeling to hide from the wary trout. hard during November. And since I am usually away from home; I hunt every day, and sometimes all day long. It can really get tiring if one does that for several days in a row. And this year will be even more taxing because of some last minute op- portunities. Now don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to equate hunting with working in some salt mine, but just saying that you can get tired. And while many people think that hunting is all I do; it has actually waned over the past few years because of the work that I now do. But I do have to hunt and fi sh on occasion in order to sim- BOATS BOATS 1999 FOUR WINNS HORIZON 170 boat. 17ft, 4.3 liter Volvo engine, 191 HP, excellent condi- tion, trailer, 2 covers, 2 pr skis, 2 floats, ropes & 8 life jackets, knee board & stereo, $7890. 704-487-0310. My goal this year is simple. Don't hunt so hard during Sep- tember and October, that when Novem- ber comes around, you will be too tired to give it everything it deserves. Again, I'm saving myself. I don't think that when it comes to my spiritual life that God wants me to save myself. But I also don't believe that He wants me to throw caution to the wind and do stupid things that hurt my ability to be all He wants me to be in the future as well. Some "martyr" types will proclaim that it is better to "burn out than rust out." And while these clichés are good sound bites, they really magnify ignorance. I can serve God with the utmost passion, but if I fail to rest, eat right, and exercise, I will soon have a message without an instrument to hold it. When we chose to follow Christ, we cannot separate one part of our life from the other. My spiritual life is not somehow separate from my physical, emotional, vo- cational, and every other part of my exis- tence. It is all perfectly intertwined and to neglect or abuse one, will be at the detri- ment of all and is unpleasing to God. www outdoortruths.or SELL US www..outdoortruths.org ...get out & enjoy nature!
