Joyce White is one of those angels that always seem to show up when you need her. Joyce normally works at the front desk on Friday afternoons, but you can find her helping in the services depart- ment with commodities, paper work, and transportation. She will always be right here for us when we need help decorating tables, filling in for someone who is sick, helping with crafts in daytime friends or where ever she is needed. Thank you Joyce for being one of our sav- ing angels. Fitness For The Fun Of It! 2011 Cleveland County Senior Games April 11-15 It’s April and we all know what that means – Senior Games. Senior Games is a year round health awareness and prevention program for seniors age 55 and above, which cul- minates each April in Cleveland County with a little healthy, as well as friendly competi- tion in such sporting events as basketball shooting, golf, badminton, horseshoes, football throw, swimming, fun walk, track and field events, putt-putt, bowling and many more athletic events. Senior athletes enjoy “Fitness for the Fun of It!” through these sporting events and programs. Senior Games is sponsored locally by the Cleveland County Council on Aging/Senior Center, Gardner-Webb University, Patrick Senior Center (Kings Mountain), Shelby City Parks and Recreation, Challenger III Amusement Park, Humana MarketPOINT, Inc. and the Dover Family YMCA. Events are held at The Leona Smith Neal Senior Center, Gardner-Webb University, Crest High School, Kings Mountain High School, Challenger III, Riverbend Golf Course and the Shelby City Park, beginning with Opening Ceremonies. Opening Ceremonies will be held at 9:00 am at Gardner-Webb University’s Spangler Stadium on Monday, April 11th . free of charge. Opening Ceremonies provides a great opportunity for family, friends and the general public to enjoy kicking off the week long Senior Games’ festivities. Closing Ceremonies will be held at the Neal Senior Center on Friday, April 29, 2011 at 6:00 pm. The public is invited to attend any of the athletic events as well as Opening and Closing Ceremonies. (There is a charge of $6.50 for the public to attend Closing Ceremonies.) Reservations must be made by April 21, 2011.) Your support of Senior Games is important to the program as well as to the athletes. They enjoy sharing the fun. Winners in the local events will be eligible to compete in the State Senior Games in Raleigh, September 26-Oct. 2, 2011. Golf participants must be winners in their age cat- egory as well as meet a minimum performance score to be eligible for State Finals. The final registration deadline to compete in the 2011 Senior Games is April 1, 2011 by 5:00 pm. Preparation Time The Council on Aging/ 2011 Tax Healthy@Home is your One Stop Shop for diabetic shoes and all your diabetic supplies. • Stylish shoes • Glucometers • Glucose strips • Compression hosiery Neal Senior Center through the AARP will once again pro- vide free, income tax prepara- tion service at the Council on Aging/Neal Senior Center (100 T.R. Harris Dr., Shelby, NC). Tax preparation will be pro- vided on Thursday and Fridays, through April 15, 2011. Call 704-482-3488 to schedule an appointment or walk-ins also welcome now through April 15, 2011, 10:00 am-3:00 pm. Monthly Covered Dish Luncheon The Council on Aging/Neal Senior Center, located at 100 TR Harris Drive, Shelby, NC, will hold covered dish luncheons on Friday, March 25th, April 15 and April 29, 2011 from 11:30-1:00 pm in the Performing Arts Room of the Center. Everyone is invited to attend. Please bring your favorite dish and join in all the fun. If you are not a cook, feel free to contribute by bringing something purchased at the grocery store or local restaurant. To reserve a seat and attend the luncheon, please contact the Senior Center (704-482- 3488) at least one week prior to the scheduled lunch(es) you plan to attend.
