F N th C li i Spencer Chamberlain Vocalist/Musician He was born on January 4, 1983 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina and is best known as lead vocalist for the metalcore band “Underoath”. Before fronting “Underoath” he was also the vocalist for the band “This Runs Through” in which his brother Phil was the drummer. Although he was born in Chapel Hill, Spencer was raised in Greensboro, North Carolina with his mother and older brother, Phil. Phil is the current drummer for “To Speak of Wolves”. As a child Chamberlain’s family was well to do and had enough money to pay tuition at Greensboro Day School. His parents had divorced when he was in elementary school., Spencer struggled with drug and alcohol abuse. He told the Alternative Press, “You know how some people have a good family or a girlfriend that’s always been there for them and never fails? That was (what) drugs (were) for me.” He particularly had problems with a serious addition to cocaine. He soon went on to Page High School. After graduation, he moved to Florida. He continued to struggle until his step brother, a pastor introduced him to Christianity. Although Spencer hadn’t grown up in a tightly knit Christian home and avoided religion most of his childhood, he claims it is half of what saved him, the other half being music. Before Chamberlain joined “Underoath” he was in a band based out of Greensboro, In the late 2003 the former lead vocalist of “Underoath” left the band. In October of the same year, Spencer took the stage as the new vocalist. In 2004 the band recorded their fi rst album. Thus far Chamberlain has released four albums with “Underoath”. When “Defi ne The Great Line” album was released it sold 98,004 copies within its fi rst week and debuted on the Billboard 200 Chart as #2. He blew out his voice and thanks to Melissa Cross got it corrected and added deeper screams to the mix. In 2010 he made a guest appearance on the track “Quercus Alba” by “To Speak Of Wolves. He continues to grow with a solid fan base. Follow us on Facebook to get up-to-date information on local events and fi nd what’s going on in our area. Sign up to be a fan of ours today!
